Damn it. I still want to know why books cost more in Canada.
"Shoppers angry about the higher cost of books in Canada can blame old regulations that were meant to help U.S. publishers cover extra costs when the dollar wasn’t on par, industry representatives told a Senate committee Tuesday.
The regulations originated in 1999, when the Canadian dollar was worth a lot less than the U.S. dollar, in part to offset the cost for U.S. publishers of shipping and distributing books in Canada, where the market is smaller and more spread out.
They allow importers to charge booksellers the price of the book in the country of origin, plus the difference in exchange rates, and an additional 10 or 15 per cent, depending on the country of origin, organizations representing booksellers said. American publishers can charge an additional 10 per cent on books shipped for sale in Canada."
Apparently no one has ever thought to change the rule though it would be quite easy to do if someone wanted.

Really? Just because he Googled "why do books cost more in Canada?" The soft bigotry of low expectations ...

It's a small drop in the ocean of reasons why tom is TIN. Your lack of appreciation for the small moments makes me feel like you would be out of touch with your constituents. The TIN should be a man or woman of the people not some distant figurehead who tries to impress his people with fancy words.
I was reading on lunch and got reminded of a question I have had for a while. Why are books more expensive in Canada? The Canadian and US dollars are pretty close to the same value, so it has to be something else aside from that. Bonertheshining (or other Canadians) I am looking at you guys for an answer.
Books need to be printed on a special, more expensive type of paper to survive the atmosphere in Canada, of which turns regular paper into snow. We have enough snow. . This special paper is also made of materials that do not allow maple syrup to stick to it. This is very important, for if we used regular paper, it would make reading in the bath tub very, very difficult. Hope this helps.
Yep you nailed it. No other reason why books here are $10 more than in the US of A
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I just found out that Cesar Millan has his own signature line of dog tread mills. The whole concept of a tread mill just for dogs makes me sad, confused, and a little bit mad.
Roo is around 700 acres according to inforoo.com Glastonbury is 900 acres plus change according to their site.
That's bananas, it looks so much bigger. Must be the angle.
I would also say that almost every aerial photo I have ever seen of Roo is just a partial. There's not many (if any) that really I have seen that have every part of the festival in one shot.
Wooooo! Just picked up tickets to see The National, Tame Impala, and Local Natives (all different shows) before/after Roo. That should help with the conflicts this year.
Shiz, totally forgot about getting Japandroids too.

This looks like everything. I wonder if Bonnaroo is counting all the treefilled/unoccupied areas in that square footage?

This sea of people with their flags is getting me all excited about festival season, and reminding me of my hate for those fucking flags during shows. I was under this American flag twice the size of me during Bon Iver and it was fine before the show, less so during it.
