Dude its ok, you get to see Phish tomorrow.. I wish I was seeing Phish tomorrow :/. Orange Beach can't get here soon enough.
Not going, couldnt find anyone who wanted to come with, plus I am going to be heading to Hudson Project tomorrow and have Flume and 311 in the middle of next week.. Figured conserving money was the best approach. Could have gotten tickets for only $40 too
For $40? Maybe I should've spoken up! And I am probably heading into NY tomorrow anyways.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I've got a weird question. I'm thinking about starting a Go Fund Me to raise money to buy a pop up camper. But when I look at some of the ones on there is seems like a stupid request compared to some of the others....thoughts?

Better than potato salad, at least?
Potato salad has $46,000????? Fuck, I'm making Crème Brûlée. Let's see what that makes.
(I've never made it before and it will probably be horrible and I have to buy one of those blow torch thingees.)

Well the tickets were for Phish tonight... I think the guy above got confused because I said Phish tomorrow, yesterday. If you're around tonight I can probably hook you up!
A woman my friend works with lives in a tiny house just like in that documentary.
That's so cool! It really does look like a wonderful and rewarding lifestyle. I'd love to, like, vacation in one. If it were up on AirBNB in a location I was going to I would definitely book it. I just like big cities and vinyl records too much to ever commit to it.
Yeah, they live pretty much off the grid. The house is on wheels so they can move it easily and in the middle of the woods. They don't plan on moving the house, but I guess having the wheels qualifies it as a mobile home so I guess that helps with the whole off the grid thing. They lived in a tent on the property while they built the house.

Yea the wheels are important for getting around building codes, according to the documentary I watched.
I prefer crazykittensmile's idea though. Let someone else build it and I just occupy it. If I can jam a turntable and some decent book shelf speakers in there then I am set.

We've got our turntable set up and vinyl collection in/on a half sized IKEA expedit (which the TV + lamp also sits on), it works out great and because it serves multiple purposes and has a lot of storage so it doesn't waste any space at all.

because who wants to sleep in a pile of potato salad - or be anywhere near anyone who did!

Nice! I also use the expedit. I have 2 4x2 shelves laying longways with my turn table and my TV on top with most of my records, movies and knick knacks stored underneath. I really love those things. They're very convenient.

See! You can do it, your record collection could totally fit in a teeny tiny apartment. Not as flashy as the miniature wheeled homes, but same idea imo
Also, you wouldn't have to use a composting toilet! Which is in pretty much all of those mobile ones. That's a dealbreaker for me. Plus where the heck do you park it if you are in a city? I read something about a lot that has a bunch of them in DC, but they're technically not "fit" for habitation, lol.
All of our systems are down at work today, all day. I don't know why I'm here.
That happened once when I worked for the PD. At hour three, we asked our boss if we could just leave. She said no because "You never know when they are going to come back up.", so I got paid to read a book for 7 hours.

They already know ours will be down all day. Yet we are all still here.

Glad I saw this convo! We are in need of a storage solution for our records, too. They are in boxes right now and it looks awful. The closest IKEA is 4 hours away though, but maybe I can find something equivalent to the Expedit or Kallax at Target?

Whoa I'm amazed Nashville doesn't have an IKEA! That is bull.
I would say the Kallax is awesome. It bears weight well can be laid horizontal or vertical. They sell wheels or stuff so you can mount it to the wall if you want. It's the perfect dimensions for storage and browsing for what to listen too. It was 12 screws and took 45 minutes. 16 bucks for shipping seems decent since it weighs what felt like 70 pounds and barely fit in the back seat of my car.
If you search for the old Expedit you will find a vinyl message board that has hundreds of pictures of people and the Expedit/Kallax set ups. Made me realize it was the best choice for me and I need to buy more records.
Not to mention the records look so damn good in the shelf. The openings are like the exact size of a record and it looks great when you fill up one of the boxes.
You're right that the box was crazy heavy but once it's set up it is really easy to move. I put both of mine together in under two hours. Use a rubber mallet to hammer the pegs into the holes and the boards onto the pegs and it'll go by super quick.
Venues should have a counter that lets you know how many tickets are available for each show. I had been planning to go to a Sylvan Esso show but we hadn't got around to buying tickets yet. When I went to buy them it said it was sold out. I had looked earlier that day and they were not sold out yet. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a counter that said how many tickets were left? That would be very useful.

Or you could buy the ticket sooner instead of procrastinating?

Are you talking about the Mothlight in Asheville or the Atlanta venue? One of the things I appreciated with the Mothlight in Asheville is that they have their fast selling shows tagged on their calendar which is rather nice of them. Hopscotch does something similar where they started giving facebook updates with exactly how many tickets are left when supplies start to get low.

ATL show. They were on Fallon Wed. night, we dvr'd it and watched it last night. As soon as it was over, I said now they've been on tv, they're really going to blow up. I better go buy those tickets (that we can't afford to buy right now) and boom they were gone already.

Same thing happened to ready4roo with the Asheville shows. He liked the video I posted but wanted to see if his wife wanted to go. By the time she saw the video, they had sold out. This was even before Fallon.
P.S. Most of the live videos I have seen are pretty great. The Fallon performance was off though.

I was already counting that show as definite. But back to my point, if there was a counter I would have bought them a lot sooner.
im not sure how i feel about this. at first I thought it was really cool. but then I thought "holy shit, this guy flew to africa so his daughter could be a princess?" that was a silly promise to make in the first place, and there are better ways to show your daughter that you will follow through with what you say. plus if I were his other kids I'd be pissed my dad went to africa on a caravan and left me home with my siblings and mom. why not just take a family vacation?
i guess it seems really heartfelt at first, but the more I thought about it, the more that seems like a really, really spoiled kid.

I bet the kid would've appreciated it enough if he had just made up some elaborate pretend kingdom or something. Maybe Dad needed a break, haha.
