My check engine light turned on this morning. It's still been running completely normally and I put a bunch of oil in it and now the check engine light turned off... am I fucked or should it be fine now?

I'm not great with cars but the check engine light isn't an indicator for basic oil issues. Having said that, if you've been running on little to no oil then that could have manifested into a problem elsewhere. It could be for numerous reasons, lots of them are fairly simple maintenance issues that you want to take care of before they turn into a much bigger problem.
Don't go to a mechanic just yet. Call some local parts stores and see if they can hook up to your car's computer and do a diagnostic check. They will do that for free at chain stores like Auto Zone. Edit: Or at least they do around here.

Yeah my dad said since it's still running normally then it's probably not a problem that will get worse by driving on it. I'm really just hoping it lasts a week or so till I can get it in to my normal mechanic people since it could use a tune up anyway. I didn't know autozone would do a free diagnostic check so that's definitely a good idea, thanks!
zen's tip of the day: if you have to donate plasma a few times to make rent, and most of the staff are unpleasant, fear not. an ipod full of Grateful Dead and a little solo dance party in the waiting room is much, much more satisfying than a "fuck you" - plus it makes the other customers smile

I get this little wrench looking thing when it is time for me to get an oil change and my friend's car does the engine looking light when it is time for regular maintenance type of stuff. I am not sure what year your car is or whatnot, but that is how the newer ones work from what I understand. I would do the free diagnostic check.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
If anyone is interested, Amazon Prime is only $67 today for new customers. Ended up being $73 and some change after tax but not too bad.
I'm bummed that I can't renew my existing subscription for that price. I think it's worth the full $99, but I would gladly have paid early (my current subscription only has two more months on it) for the discount.

I guess I don't buy enough stuff. I cancelled my prime bc I never used it. I don't think I've ever spent $99 on shipping charges in a year. And the streaming stuff is pretty limited.

Honestly, I have had it for years and I think I rarely get close to truly using it to the point where I get the monetary worth. I still think it's worth it because when I do buy things, it's not a stressful experience. There's no, "Man, what a great value, but do I want to pay 7.99 in shipping?" or "let me find another $10 item to get the free shipping!" I can just click and not worry.

I probably get close to the $100 in shipping mark a year, but it's definitely worth it for these reasons too.
Free 2-day shipping is fast, a lot of areas even have free Sunday delivery these days. You can order something Saturday afternoon/evening, and have it on your doorstep Monday. And you can often upgrade to overnight shipping for $4.
And if you live in a major metro area like NYC, LA, or others, same delivery is a thing too.
I look at the streaming as more of a bonus, then a reason to really sign up. It has some good HBO shows, and some others, but not much you can't get on Netflix/Hulu.
I <3 Prime. Except for Prime Day, that was a fucking joke.

I have started using the Prime scheduled delivery function with things like paper towels, tp, and dog food. You save even more and don't have to think about it. We live in the sticks so anything we can avoid having to go out and get vs. delivered to the door is awesome. Otherwise we use the streaming video a lot and like the ease to rent or buy any media. Free monthly books for the Kindle. All in all it beats a trip to Wal-Mart/Target/Dollar General any day, the fee is worth it just for that to me.

Agreed on those as well. Without upgrading, I actually have ordered something late afternoon and received it the next morning. It was something like a 15 hour turnaround. So impressed! Also, I thiiiink I have mentioned it on here, but if you are ordering something and you're not in a rush, choose the slower delivery option. I have done it a few times and it still often comes in 2-3 days and no longer than 5 or so. They give you credit for slowing the delivery. I have recieved free pantry shipments as well as $ towards music and movies.
I did watch a miniseries once on Amazon that wasn't offered on any other streaming site that I subscribe to - Under the Dome. Besides that, yeah, nothing special. Just an added plus. I rarely log into it.

I just looked at my account to see if it was worth it for me on shipping, and I've placed 50 orders since January, so assuming an average of $3 for shipping, it was completely worth it for us. Plus, we've gotten a couple of big things, so we saved a lot on shipping for those things.
We also look at the video as a bonus, but we've gotten a fair amount of use out of it as we watched Deadwood again recently and some other things. Also, Amazon is working on upping its original content game. Transparent was pretty great. We enjoyed Hand of God, although it was a bit hokey, and I'm not super-optimistic that a second season would be worth watching (if it even gets one). I just read that they picked up Sneaky Pete based on one of their things where they show the pilot and let people vote on whether it should be picked up or not. Same for The Man in the High Castle, which seems like a pretty promising one.
Plus, we've gotten a couple of big things, so we saved a lot on shipping for those things.
That's a solid point right there. If you buy one piece or furniture or something that is otherwise bulky and/or heavy, you've already made it worth it.

It's a really good cop drama. It's not radically redefining the genre, but Titus Welliver is the shit, and you have Marlo playing his partner. Melody and I watched it exclusively until we finished season one.
It also has the coolest introductory credit sequence of any show ever. Makes me want to go live in LA and just be like a jazz musician or a badass or something.

Bosch is on my (long) list of shows to check out. I love Titus Welliver and don't think I knew Marlo was in it.

seriously how much more awesome do you need?
what excites me about the show is how much material they have for it. michael connelly has written 21 Bosch novels, with the 22nd coming soon. and titus welliver has said in interviews bosch is a character he'd love to play for a long, long time. So if it stays popular and amazon stays behind it (which it appears they have all intentions of doing) we could be enjoying the show for a long time.
