Jesus, I'd never thought I'd type these words...but I'm going to go see Cher in Austin in less then a month.
Wow.
My mom just found out she's playing in Austin, and is desperately trying to find someone to go with. When none of her friends could, she asked me if I'd go with her if she bought the ticket...I agreed.
I guess I should just get ready for the Motherboy competition?

Please tell me you are going to wear those outfits.

Just checked out a few setlists from this tour, and it looks like they're closing with Blood & Thunder. Quite possibly one of my favorite songs of theirs, and closing with it sure ends the show with a bang! Playing that is the one thing that could have made their 'roo show better

I'm seeing this tour next week, and I'm almost as stoked for Gojira as I am for Mastodon.

You won't be disappointed, Gojira kicked some major ass (my first time seeing them). I had a 3 hour drive from my work site, so I missed Kvelertak, but got in right as Gojira hit the stage. They sounded great, really tight as a band. You could see they were having a great time on this tour too. They had an energetic 45 min set.
Mastodon had to cut their setlist short by two songs due to Austin's bullshit sound curfew for outside venues, but at least they realized it was happening at the end and still played Blood and Thunder for our closer.
Brann talked to the audience for several minutes after they finished, just thanking us and the usual bs. Dedicated the set to Ikey Owens and played Pendulous Skin over the PA as the crowd left.
Overall great show, Mastodon are still bringing it. I really feel they've improved their live vocals tremendously too. I thought their live vocals were the weakest part of their show in their early years. They've grown into it, and passing some of the vocal duties off to Brann helps too. I like his voice quite a bit actually. It must be a bitch singing and drumming at the same time though.

Yeah, Mastodon's live vocals have gotten so much better. They used to be really rough; I think moving away from nothing but "metal voice" in every song helps, too. When I last saw them on their second go-around for the Hunter, they sounded great.
I might wind up missing Kvelertak too - I think the show starts at something like 6:30, and I flat out don't know if I can make it in time after work. About how long after the given time for the start of the show did Gojira come on?

For the Austin show, doors were 6, Kvelertak started at 7 (assuming they played til 730), Gojira played 8-845, Mastodon played 915-1030. They said they had to cut 2 songs due to the sound curfew.

Doors 6:30, Kvelertak starts 7:30. I'd say Gojira would be on about 8:30 and Mastodon 9:30-9:45
Pointed this out to my wife last night. She is down for the Raleigh show, which makes me very happy.
How's this for a few weeks of shows: 10/25 Wilco 10/30 Sir Paul 11/1 Avett Bros 11/4 J. Roddy Walston & the Business
Tix for the last three are in-hand. Just need to speed dial on Friday.
Now 10/23 Wilco in Knoxville. Whaddup, Knoxville?
First of four in the books, and my ears are not ringing, bleeding or otherwise showing their age (the Tennessee Theater is incredible, by the way). Wilco set the bar REALLY high on Thursday. I suspect that Sir Paul will be up for the challenge in Greensboro.

Glad you enjoyed yourself. Knoxville does have two really fine theater venues in the Tennessee and the Bijou.
Saw the Bijou when we walked back to the Marriott after the show. We were trying to think of what we had near us that was on par with the Tennessee. We don't have much. There are a couple of theaters where they perform musicals, but I've never seen a rock n roll act at those places -- not sure the acoustics would be close to Thursday night. The DPAC in Durham is nice, and gets good acts. But it is almost halfway to Knoxville distance. McCartney is at the Greensboro Coliseum -- not great acoustics, but a nice facility.
It was good to get back to Knoxville. We had a football game at home on Saturday, and people visiting for the game Friday. Perhaps the best positive impact of this road trip was my wife seeing people setting up for the UT/Bama game on Friday MORNING, for a game Saturday. My 4-hour tailgate seems so amateurish by comparison. Now I can step up my game.
I'm just looking forward to November. Just got through CMJ here in NY and that was a blast. But I have a nice lineup for next month.
11/7 - Benjamin Booker @ Baby's all Right (maybe) 11/9 - Jamestown Revival @ Mexi Cali Live 11/10 - Tame Impala @ Beacon Theatre 11/14 - Lake Street Dive @ Terminal 5 11/21 - The Wild Feathers @ Irving Plaza 11/23 - Ryan Adams @ Hammerstein Ballroom
I've seen all of them other than Tame Impala before, and within the last year. All of them fantastic live acts. Really pumped for that Tame Impala show though.
