Yeah, I heard Venom and Pelican were playing that about a month ago. Venom never comes to the f'n states anymore. If that is the only US fest that they are doing next year, I am probably going. Two of my friends are definitely going because they are huge Venom fans. If they announce another big one that I haven't seen and really want to, like King Diamond, I am quacking there. It is the weekend after Hangout fest though, so I would have to skip coachella, jazzfest, or hangout to be able to afford the trip. Mobile to Baltimore is like a 18-20 hour drive though...would probably be best to fly there. "The final bands will be announced between October 8-10" 7 months in advance in we have the full f'n lineup. That is how it is f'n done, son.

I caught these folks at Boomslang and was mighty impressed. They will be well worth the $7 cover. Also this is a small but amazing sounding venue. IMO the best sounding small venue in the Downtown area right now.

I can't express enough how much I disagree with this. The sound at 529 is horrendous. Sure, it has plenty with volume, but it pretty much drowns out all vocals. The sound there is like listening to mud...really really loud mud. They also schedule bands extremely late. Even during the week, headliners won't go on until 1:00. The place is really frustrating for me because they have great bands all the time and it's the closest bar to my house, but I really have to weigh out if It's really going to be worth seeing a show there. I decided not go to DIIV and Wild Nothings last night because of the sound. Those bands are not dynamic enough to cut through the sound system there. I knew there is no way I would be able to know what song they were playing. I know it sounds like I'm talking a lot of sh*t about the place, but I really do like it. This is more like constructive criticism of a place I really love.

Everything monster00 said is dead on. I've had great times at 529, but the sound is the worst in Atlanta. It works well enough for LOUD bands, but that's about it. And the set times are ridiculous. I actually prefer a later start time for weekend shows, but I've seen Monday night headliners take the stage at 1:30 there, which is quacking absurd for a "real" venue that isn't in a warehouse or something.
I feel bad saying anything negative about the place, because I have a ton of fond memories associated with it. I used to live less than a block away (cross the parking lot, look for the fence), so I could usually get away with hanging out there until 2:30 or whatever. But I wouldn't consider it a model venue.
Band of Horses December Tour December 3rd - Ann Arbor, MI - The Michigan Theater December 5th - Toronto, ON - Massey Hall December 6th - Montreal, QC - Metropolis December 9th - Boston, MA - House of Blues December 14th - Philadelphia, PA - Electric Factory December 15th - Richmond, VA - The National
Their DeLuna set marked my first time seeing Band of Horses and they were WAY better live that I had anticipated. It'd be cool to see them in a nice venue.

^ Good to hear. I'm seeing them next Friday in an OK venue (same place I saw Jack White earlier this year), so it'll be nice to see them on their own. Every other time I've seen them this year has been in a festival setting, opening for MMJ. Hopefully Ben will look like he's bathed and/or washed his hair recently...he's looked like a homeless vagrant in every pic from this tour.
I'm seeing Yonder Mtn String Band, Keller Williams & others this weekend, plus Civil Twilight & MuteMath next Wednesday. (I completely forgot that I'd bought a ticket to the latter!) It's gonna be a full music week. Hellooooo, Rocktober!

@ Monster00, Problem Dog - OK Maybe I'm exaggerating the sound a bit at 529 it is super loud, but I'm usually wearing loosly fitted ear plugs. And I agree the set times are ridiculous. A band I take part in had second slot about a week ago and didn't go on until 11:30 (load in was at 7...WTF?). So as far as Buke and Gase I'm not expecting them to go on until 12:30. But it will be worth it.
