Hahaha your hate for VW is that intense? They're another band I liked on track a lot - then seeing them live killed that appreciation for their albums entirely. I can hardly listen to a song by them now without having PTSD to their fucking lifeless '14 Roo show. And I missed CHVRCHES for that shit. Forever bitter.
Not trying to start an argument, but c'mon now that's just silly. Even if a live performance is disappointing, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to appreciate their studio output.
Each to their own on that one. Having a bad live show experience that is almost entirely bad because of (i.e. not bad because of other factors, unrelated to the music/performance itself) how terrible the band/artist's energy is on stage and how flat the songs come across to me as I experience it - that can turn me off thereafter from hearing those tracks that were played. It has to be an extreme negative reaction for this to happen for me - and the VW '14 Roo show was THAT bad, in my opinion. They're one of the only bands or artists that I have just stopped listening to after seeing them perform live. Passion Pit is another haha
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
From what others have said, it sounds like they have issues translating their studio albums to a live show. I enjoy their studio output, but I've never seen a full live performance. To be fair, those vocals must be insanely difficult to match in a live environment, especially when you're doing it for an hour straight. If he doesn't modify the way he sings live (maybe bring things down an octave for songs like Sleepyhead), I think he's going to blow out his vocal chords. I'm also aware that I seem to be in the minority of people on Inforoo who actually like their music. Oh well.
I saw them at a fest at the end of march and was the best (of 4) shows I've seen. The most impressive part, to me, was he was able to sing in his style the whole time. I've gotten pretty lukewarm on their music, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Probably would have liked it more if they did t play right after Portugal. The man who were incredible
Portugal. The Man fucking KILLED it at BUKU this year. For me, it was one of the best performances of the festival. TV on the Radio and Zella Day are second and third, but there's a HUGE spread between. And TVotR is one of my all time favorite bands, so that is saying something. They said hi, banged out song for song and ended with Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall/Purple Yellow Red and Blue mix. OMG. So amazing! This is the second time I saw them, and they get better each time.

That is the show to go to. Its going to be amazing. I am jealous you are going to see them. I would totally see them again, anytime.

I just recently got into PTM. I've heard nothing but good things about their live show, so I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to see them in the near future.

What was TVOTR like? That set and PTM is what I'm most excited for.
Edit - and of course, Tame Impala.
So good. This was the fifth time that I have seen them live. They played a bunch of their new music, with just a sprinkle of songs from previous albums. In fact, I was surprise they didn't play some of the songs I expected, but that could be because of the fest setting and promoting the new album. They are much harder live, very energetic and the lyrics sound much like the album. They rocked the fuck out IMO.
There was a weird crowd though, and the kids in front of me that took Molly, started really feeling it in the middle of 'Wolf Like Me.' But that is typical BUKU. I had to tell one of the frat bros to stop touching/pulling on me, I don't want to dance with him, I am jamming out to the show in front of us.
EDIT: I am going to see Tame Impala on May 9th. I am so stoked to see them. They got washed out when I tried to see them in 2013 at ACL.

See you there! so excited for that show and never been to the civic before but looks like it should be a great place to see them. You on the floor? If so i'll be the tallest guy there, with my not as tall as me wife and another couple. First round is on me, their drink menu looks pretty good!

I've seen portugal. the man 5 times and they are one of THEEEE best live bands. so damn good.
their set at roo in 2013 was my favorite outside of sir paul. and they played in minneapolis just 2 days after I got back from roo, and as soon as their set was over I pulled up my phone and immediately bought myself a ticket.

Yes floor. I love the Civic, but they have a sound issue. They were supposed to be putting some stupid, crazy amount of money into fixing it. I hope that it has happened. The way that building is build, the sound naturally carries and is fantastic for acoustic sets more than electric. Airbone Toxic Event went on almost an hour late trying to get the sound right, and Isaac Brock stopped the show for almost 30 minutes and had a Q&A session while they tried to fix the sound. Broken Bells was amazing there, but they don't use very much electric and with him being a tenor I think it helped. Will definitely look for you. That is me in my avatar and in all my past avatars other than the kangaroo.
It says it's a festival (but not really). More like one night in 2 clubs and a day at a lake (and a brunch on the third day). Either way, I'll be there.

uhhhhh this could theoretically be my first weekend in virginia. I've been dying to see GWAR. this is hilarious and amazing and I must go.
Lots of wrong being thrown around this thread today
Vampire Weekend lover?
EDIT: I win! Saw your Now Playing post.
Knowing what I've seen (aka read) about Jim's music taste, I figured it was the VW negative comments that he was mostly disagreeing with. I meant passion pit more as a joke but now I see he likes them too. I still like Sleepyhead on track sometimes? That's about it.

To be the arbitration in the above argument.
1. Vampire Weekend is pretty solid, IMO. I don't think they're ready to headline a festival as some have said in other threads...but I would be interested in seeing them. 2. Michael Angelakos vocals is very "hit or miss". Seen PP twice, once he was awful...the other time he was solid. Made a big difference.
