Abra was planning to go to Barley's tonight to meet up with one of her friends. Lo and behold, Deep Dark Woods is playing there tonight. I'm a little jealous.
GL - you'd like it. It's a bit of a cleaned up but still old school metal club. Used to be called Jaxx and they'd have both older glammy metal bands like Ratt and Poison but also legit current metal shows like this sweet BtBaM, Deafheaven, Intronaut show that I will be at, though probably by myself. Just this week they have Veil of Maya and The Misfits.
Also, Springfield is right off 95 at the Beltway so it's an easy 15 minutes closer to you than DC is.

Of course it (and the BTBAM/Deafheaven/Intronaut show) had to be a Sunday night.
Don't be a pansy. Do it.
If I lived a lot closer to Boston, I would.
A few things to note:
1. I leave my house a little before 6 am to get to work in the morning. It totally blows.
2. Certain places in Boston are much easier to drive in/out of than others. The venue a show is at determines how exactly I get there once I'm near the city.
Now this will make absolutely little sense to you from here on, but I feel the need to explain myself anyway:
Allston is NOT one of the nice ones to get in/out of - it's not close to the highway and only has a couple main thoroughfares connecting it to anywhere I'd be coming from. There's also very little metered parking spaces and tons of resident permit requirements. Come to think of it, I've never actually driven into Allston. I've always just taken the T.
Speaking of which:
It's a 50 minute drive from here to Riverside and Woodland, at the western end of the Green Line D Branch. The Men play at Great Scott in Allston, right off the Harvard Ave stop off the Green B branch. It's a half hour or so from Woodland/Riverside down the D to Kenmore, then have to go about 15 minutes in the other direction down B to get to Harvard Ave. It's kind of a pain in the ass.
Royale (near Boylston (Green) and Back Bay (Orange) on the map above), where BTBAM et al are playing, is a lot easier. Chances are I just drive straight into the city. There's a place I park at, fairly easy to get to from the highway, and just a 10 minute walk away from the venue. It's a little over an hour to here to the parking spot. More manageable.
Sometimes I use the parking spot and just take the B straight out to Harvard Ave. - but it's more expensive to do all that. (I'll spare the details.) It depends on how I'm feeling and the situation.

I'll back him on this one, getting to Allston blows. A couple weeks ago it took me just about as much time to get from the airport to Allston as it did to get from Florida to the airport. I wish I was exaggerating.

I'm joking. Everytime I've seen them it's been nothing short of stellar. Excited. This is my second favorite club to see shows at.
I think they made the Athens show somewhat extra special considering their ties to the city. Bradford grew up there and the new bassist lives there. Deerhunter murdered the sound check for about and hour, which can be heard into the street, and covered Television. Prior to the show, they wreaked havoc on the house sound system and then jammed until 2:30am. Bradford's Aunt Joyce was even there celebrating her Birthday!
Sorry to ramble on. I just want to go back and do it again. I hope you get the Nothing Ever Happened that we got.
