The only thing that Bonnaroo does to separate us from animals is what they keep off the farm. First we get Waka then we get Flo-Rida, then we are the Warped Tour. That kind of degeneration is like the reverse of the evolution scale where it goes from monkey to human.
Friday for the sweeter-than-sweet avatar.
And I agree with what you said, for what it's worth.

Won't you think of the kids? I hope I'm around to see Waka or whichever hip hop artist you don't like ruin Bonnaroo
Man. I mean no ill will here but for your sake, dial it back for a minute. This isn't the classic case of my generation passing me by, it is more like explaining to a completely oblivious individual that a Jason Mraz/Will Smith/Wiggles headliner wouldn't be a good idea. With Bonnaroo, we have certain standards that when violated, never get forgiven.
For 2012, it looks like the best bet would be either Ludacris or T.I. I would T.I. better. The other being named on this board are not big enough to be the main rap concert at Bonnaroo.
Flo Rida is another possibility.
On what, exactly, are you basing your belief that Ludacris or T.I. (who is presently in jail) are the "best bets?" Neither plays festivals often, to my knowledge, neither are really known for their live show, and neither are really a "huge" name where they'd be brought in for their popularity, at least not among the more music-aware, festival crowd Bonnaroo brings in. If this was a local radio station's summer hip-hop jam, then yeah both those guys might be likely, but for Bonnaroo, I don't know why they'd be seen as such.
And Flo Rida? Really?
I refuse to discuss Flo Rida. Ludacris played the Virgin Mobile Free Fest last September, which doesn't qualify as often but it does happen. I could see Luda doing Bonnaroo. If he releases another big album, he could probably headline, but he could definitely play a pre-HL act either way. He's probably bigger in the South than in other places, which helps for Roo. My friend saw him at Virgin and said it was a pretty good show, nothing over the top, but not bad by any means. I'd love to see him, especially if he closed Which or What pre-HL instead of LN (less conflicts), especially if it's done the way they did this year with headliners going from 11-12:30 so that the pre-HL shows are when it's dark (or at least dusk).

No way Luda would ever headline. But in the Nas/Damien Marley or Lil Wayne role? It's possible, if he bangs out another good album like you said.

He definitely couldn't headline, but I think he could handle a high profile set. If he got a late night you could probably put it in a tent, but late afternoon or evening it would have to be on a stage.

I don't think he'd fit in a tent LN. I picture him on Which Stage if he's LN. But honestly, I see him as more of a pre-HL in my mind, though I can't put my finger on exactly why.
- BlackStar - The Roots - Ghostface & Raekwon - Curren$y - Freeway & Jake One - Freddie Gibbs
That'd be plenty for me, and perfect.
Yeah, I pretty much agree with this list. BlackStar is far and away my number one, but I would be excited for either Mos or Kweli solo. I think the roots have to do something in the next year to get on the lineup, but I would LOVE to see them. I actually think we might get all of the Wu tang clan if Legendary Weapons does well. That would make an epic LN set.
I would also like to see Lupe Fiasco but, like the roots, I think he has to put in some work between now and February.
I also think we get Drake *shrugs* I also would love to see Nicki Minaj *ducks*

EDIT: juggs, I agree with you that Wu is better with just a few members, Ghost, Method & Rae would be ideal, but with their album about to come out, I think all of the Wu Tang together is more likely.

What makes you say that? I feel like the Roots are one of those groups doesn't really need a new album out in order to perform - they're touring workhorses.
I feel like Bonnaroo has the tendency to book hip-hop acts that are "hot" right now. Either you need some new material, or you need to be exploding in popularity, and unfortunately, the roots are neither. In 2012, they will be two years removed from releasing new material. I don't think it's a matter of them not touring at the time (they probably will be) it's more speaking to how selective Bonnaroo is when it comes to hip hop.
EDIT: Thanks for that article. I am never really took a close look at the tracklist before. Way less excited now.
Well, if anyone would be an exception, it would be the Roots, but Bonnaroo has evolved into a very different festival than it was in 2003. Even though roo is booking more hip hop now than ever before, I still think Bonnaroo is a little too trendy to book them. That said, I really, really, really hope you are right.

They weren't too trendy to book Public Enemy in 2009.....though I'm not sure if they were promoting a new album or anything.

-The Roots late night superjam featuring everyone you could imagine. Seriously...when's the last time Dr. John put out an album?
-Jurassic 5 reunion. They played Bonnaroo multiple times and were always a "Bonnaroo act" since the early days. If they were to get back together anywhere, it should be at Bonnaroo.
-Black Star. No explanation needed especially after the tease this year.
-OFWGKTA late night.
-The return of Kanye. It should happen sometime, why not on the heels of his most critically acclaimed album? Sure Roo fans hold a grudge, but we are also music snobs at the end of the day that recognize great talent.
I also think Wiz Khalifa/Curren$y would make for a great late night set if they played together. Freddie Gibbs, Yelawolf, and Big Kritt are very likely possibilities too. Hopefully Jay Electronica can release something official in time to build his hype back up and return to Bonnnaroo.

No OFWGKTA Late Night yet. They're not yet a tight enough live band to put them there. I could enjoy their awesome chaos in the heat of the day as much as during the night.
Thats ur thoughts, which are ok...but have you ever seen them live, both put on great shows...I think all three would be good for a smaller stage during the day...all three are growing populartiy

N.E.R.D. put on a great show when I saw them a couple years ago. It would be pleasing to both rap fans and rock fans. I think it could be a good late night set, but I see them as more likely for a daytime show.
And Odd Future isn't really deserving of a late night yet. Sure they've got a lot of hype and some really good songs, but as far as a live act, they have a long way to go. Don't get me wrong, I'd see them if they were there, but I'd rather see them in a couple years after they've gotten it together a bit.
I think my number one hip-hop act would be A Tribe Called Quest, but I've never seen live stuff from them and I doubt they're as good live as they used to be (I'm pretty sure they're almost in their 40's) Either way that would be amazing.
