I don't even consider T.I. extremely popular anymore. Sure he is popular because of his track record of hits, but the most recent album isn't exactly tearing up the radio with hit songs like he has done in the past.
Ludacris is kind of a wild card. He doesn't seem to play many fests, although he was at the Virgin Mobile Fest last year. He put on a good show when I saw him, but that has been many years back. I could see it happening, but I'm not sure how high he would be on the lineup.
As far as the biggest "mainstream" hip hop act we could see next year, Drake seems logical. As does Lupe. I don't see someone like Rick Ross making the cut, but I suppose its possible.
Also, would not at all be surprised to see Tech N9ne on the lineup next year, given his recent chart success. He has been a king of the underground for a while and is finally getting some "mainstream" attention, it seems.
What would be really awesome, is if bonnaroo had the gonads to hire more small hip hop related acts in the "Budweiser"/whatever the f small tents they have near What/Which. I don't think there has ever been a hip hop show in those places, but with how close the stage is, people would be loving it if it were good..

Tupac is my brother in law... he is planning his return at bonnaroo 2012.
No but seriously... Here is the list:
*************Madvillainy (MF DOOM/ Madlib)************* Wu-Tang Cypress Hill The Roots Immortal Technique (maybe too serious for bonnaroo, but still is a beast) Jedi Mind Tricks/ Army of the Pharaohs Slaughterhouse Outkast (wishful thinking) A Tribe Called Quest Dr. Dre/ Snoop Dogg/ Eminem/ Xzibit in a SmokeOut Tour reunion Black Star (or just Talib or Mos Def) KRS-One Rakim Lupe Fiasco Ice Cube De La Soul AZ Das Racist
Really just look at the Rock The Bells line up over the past few years.. Pretty much everyone on there is fire

They had a couple this year. They had that chick that cheated to win the competition, as awful as she was. They also had Chancellor Warhol this year. I have no memory of previous years.
If they are gonna put a mainstream rap artist in the lineup, I think they'll want it to be someone everyone can recognize. A lot of these artists being listed aren't well known enough.
I didn't catch any hip-hop sets this year except for hearing Eminem from camp and about 5 minutes of Lil Wayne from the Broo'ers fest. Odd Future and Big KRIT are really the only hip hop acts I am interested in for 2012

This thread is for discussing all possible hip hop at Bonnaroo, not just the most popular acts. Although, most of the names being thrown around here are recognizable to most people who listen to hip hop

well cheating usually does mean you suck...but good to know, they'll probably keep it up then
Hi. I'm absolutely right. People would eat that shit up.
I keep hoping you post a "Just Kidding!" If you're serious about Waka Flocka, your opinion is wrong. And yes, I know I just said an opinion was wrong when that defies the very nature of the word "opinion", but you deserve it.
Oh, and for the guy who called Juggs an "idiot" and then went on to say Waka Flocka's hypothetical Thursday late-night set would be "insane amounts of fun" needs to re-think their fun scale.

Oh man dropping the wrong opinion bomb. No way I can recover now.
I don't really understand how it's hard to understand that people would enjoy a Waka Flocka set assuming he's not a trainwreck. I'm just going on the music.

I love hood rap, for the record. Waka Flocka is terrible. He's the latest rapper to get a lot of hype and is, in my humble opinion, garbage.
I mean, what eloquent urban poetry:
I quacked my money up, damn Now i can't re-up Ran off in his spot just to get stacks up Now i'm back on deck, So shawty what the quack you want Heard he talkin sh!t but this aint what the quack he want Locked my ceo up Now it's back to coka N***as talkin sh!t bruh, hang him by a ropa
That right there just drips talent. His shows leave a ton to be desired as well, since I've seen him live.
I like in that last couplet where he needs to change the word "rope" to "ropa" to fit the rhyme scheme. Why wouldn't he have just used coke/rope in the first place?
you forgetting a major piece of mr. flame...
WACKA! FLOCKA!
needs to work seamlessly into the chorus or you won't remember he's there

You keep using this phrase to qualify your stance on a Flocka show. Is he regularly a trainwreck? I'm a big Weezy fan, and in his dark days he was horrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrific live. I should probably add some r's to that horrific, he was that bad. So if being a "trainwreck" is a legitimate concern for the guy, then no, he shouldn't come to the farm. And that's before factoring his music.
It's simply not good. I went crazy downloading mixtapes when Weezy was released from jail, and Waka was on a lot of the songs. Needless to say, I started skipping his verses pretty quickly.
This is a thread naming guys like Jay-Z, The Roots, ATCQ, Wu-Tang, Rakim, KRS-One, etc. Some of the best lyricists to ever break through in the hip-hop genre. And you're trumpeting a guy who, as someone mentioned above, stuffs "WAKA! FLOCKA!" into every song about 100x over. His studio recordings sound like radio DJ's doing their shoutouts and bomb-dropping sound bytes all over it.
I guess I like hip-hop too much to promote a guy that does everything possible to keep people stereotyping it as loud and angry black guys rapping about drugs and women.
This, mostly. I've probably listened to more OFWGKTA over the last 6 or so months than any other artist, as Im sure is the case with a lot of other people. Why wouldnt I want to see my favorite current artist(s) live?
And despite their "poor performances" (Mostly true, the show is basically all energy) I saw them a month ago in Detroit and it was the most fun Ive ever had at a show until I saw !!! at Bonnaroo this year

1) That's some class A holier-than-thou overthinking. 2) I have no idea about the live reputations for most of the artists I listen to because I have no idea what they are like live, and I don't usually do a whole lot of research unless I'm in LOVE with an artist.
A lot of these have already been mentioned but here's what I would like to see:
- Goodie Mob and/or Outkast reunion. If we had a Dungeon family southern rap revival at Bonnaroo, that would be unreal. - Any form of the WU as long as Ghostface is there. - Everybody is talking about a possible "Watch the Throne" set with Jay and Kanye but a G.O.O.D. Music review with Kanye, Pusha T, Pete Rock, etc would be nice too. - I would like to see Rick Ross. - The Roots main stage with no conflicts this time. - Are the Cool Kids over the hump now? Is it uncool now to suggest the Cool Kids? - Somebody said MF Doom and I don't think that garnered enough attention. - Kool Keith/ Black Elvis/ Dr. Doom/ Dr. Octagon/ Whateverthefuck - N.E.R.D. - Blakroc (extremely wishful thinking)

The only thing that Bonnaroo does to separate us from animals is what they keep off the farm. First we get Waka then we get Flo-Rida, then we are the Warped Tour. That kind of degeneration is like the reverse of the evolution scale where it goes from monkey to human.

Won't you think of the kids? I hope I'm around to see Waka or whichever hip hop artist you don't like ruin Bonnaroo
