Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo in 2013!!
I would read them first, you will have a better understanding of the story. Just do not get real attached to any of the characters and do not make a lot of assumptions about who is good or bad.

I saw the show first, and though you obviously can't go wrong reading the books first, I actually felt like seeing the show helped hype me up for reading the books. Plus, it's only 10 episodes, so you can knock it out much quicker than the books.

i just finished the first book....still haven't watched any of the show though. it's not available on netflix here in canada yet.
i consider myself fairly literate. i am an avid reader and have been from a young age. but man did i ever find this book confusing. there are soooooo many characters and too many nicknames for each one. i found i had to read it with my ipod beside me just to continually look up references (appendix in the back didn't really help).
superrr stoked to watch season one...and get onto book two!
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

I watched the show before I started with the books. It helped me have a picture in my mind of the person before I started reading. It gets a little confusing due to some of the descriptions not matching up (i.e. Arya) but was really helpful overall.

maynardave i think that was a smart idea. i usually try to read books first because i like to create the characters fresh in my mind (although knowing sean bean was eddard was great cause i pictured him the whole time). i think i'll watch the first season before i start the second book. plus it'll be a great refresher....although i think i'm just going to keep meeting new characters and saying goodbye to old ones.

Almost done with Clash of Kings and am dying with anticipation for the TV adaptation, especially after that new teaser trailer.
also- what are thoughts on how they are going to do Feast for Crows and Dance with Dragons? From what I've read on amazon reviews, these books dramatically slow down in terms of plot and pacing and also have the character perspectives split between the two. It would obviously make sense to have them adapted parallel to each other, side by side, instead of one after the other?

I know SoS is supposedly going to be split into two seasons, so they have a bit to plan. I do see what you are saying. GRRM wrote somewhere that he planned it as one book, but it grew too large for one, so he split it into two. He went on to say that he split it by characters rather than by chronology since there was not a natural break in the storytelling at the halfway point, so I would not be surprised to see it done the same with the series. On the other hand, they have stated that the series will be somewhat different than the books, so the narrative may be changed enough to have the break that was missing in the books.

Assuming the tv show makes it that far, I think they will have to combine those two books. It was doable with the books, but it seems like it would be confusing as hell to structure the tv show the same way.
Maybe it was because I read all of the first five at once, but I struggled like crazy to get through Dance With Dragons. Actually, I think the only reason I got through Feast For Crows as quickly as I did was because it was Thanksgiving, and I was visiting my family. It took me two months to finish DWD. I just could not bring myself to spend any time on it at all.

I would say that AFFC and DWD should be 2 seasons, but with the POV's combined. Basically one season of the first half of both books, then one season with the second half of both books. Makes way more sense for TV.
finished Clash of Kings last night. Starting Storm of Swords today. If its half as good as everyone in this thread makes it out to be....ohboyohboy. Haven't been this excited over a modern book series since I discovered Harry Potter in sixth grade.
