New for this year - we took in our shortie chairs, that have the attachable canopy that goes over the chair. These were a life saver in terms of making through long days in Centeroo. (Note we always set up at the back of the crowd if we used the canopies to be respectful of others viewing.) Pulled the canopies down fairly close and it made a world of difference. Met quite a few fun folks that tucked in beside us and we shared every bit of shade that we could. (Will post pics/links soon as i can.)
I also had my compact sun umbrella in my hand or in plain view every time we entered C-Roo and never had an issue. The umbrella made a huge difference for me during the long hikes from camp to centeroo as we rarely saw any taxi's in our pod going back to Croo. Coming out was ok, but nothing going in.
I wish we had had umbrellas this year. They are definitely going on the list for next year. It would have been a HUGE help to get the sun off of my face/shoulders (especially on Sunday).

I saw the biggest umbrella I've ever seen in line for John Waters on Sunday...the thing had to have been 7' across and had flaps to stake it to the ground...so I really don't think they were stopping anything short of a circus tent from getting in.
Personal umbrellas are allowed. It's the patio umbrellas that they have a problem with.
I actually saw a guy with one of these. I had to stare for a minute to believe it. It looked like he had removed about half of the metal pole so it wasn't so long.

Why did it NEVER occur to me to bring an umbrella? It would be a lifesaver if only for times I'm waiting in line for the pit or comedy tent.. Totally bringing one next year
I have to say that with out an umbrella there's no way i would have survived, I'm really fair skinned and burnt with 60 SPF on. I also tried to always make sure to be polite about it and close it when ever I was in a big crowd and I shared it with people that obviously needed a break from the sweltering sun. It was also great for my friends finding me in the crowd and for people around me to Be found. They never gave me a hard time about bringing it in and some of the vendors inside centeroo actually sold sunbrellas.
My sun hat (which my boyfriend detested & I'm sure will deposit in the nearest trash can if I don't keep an eye on it) and my umbrella saved me....I know it was cooler this year than in previous years but the sun affected me a lot more. I had terrible cramps in my arms and legs all weekend but at least with my portable shade, I didn't get as burned as I usually do! I also gave up on being a die hard and spent over 5 hours in the cinema tent on Saturday during the day!
I've brought my umbrella the last couple years and had no issues with security on it.
It might have helped during John Butler last year, not passing out. I pulled it out this year mostly during Black Uhuru. Didn't see too many shows for long periods of time on the What/Which in daytime this year.
We didn't bring one because we thought they weren't allowed. That will change next year. Probably would have seen a few more shows if we had one, or been in better spots for the shows we did roast for.
