A friend and I are driving in from Austin, first time at Bonnaroo. Absolutely cannot wait.
Due to some work stuff, we can't get out of town until tomorrow afternoon. It's about a 14 hour drive. We have a few options, and are trying to figure out the best way to go.
We can either drive straight through and get in around 5am on Thursday, or we can stop in Tunica (we can get a free room through Harrah's) late Wednesday night/Thurs AM. We'd be getting to Tunica probably around 1am Thursday morning, and we'd try to get out by 9am or so, putting us in Manchester around 2pm Thursday.
I've been reading a lot on here and am concerned about the dreaded 7 hour wait. Should we run into that on Thursday, we'd miss pretty much the entire day. If we drive straight through we'd be in line by 5am, but we're dealing with literally zero sleep. We're young and don't need a ton of sleep, but starting a 4 day camping trip on zero sleep might not be the best idea.
I'm looking for some input here. Anything I'm missing or any other factors/advice to help with our decision? Also, any tips on avoiding the dreaded 7 hour wait? Whichever route we take (direct vs. Tunica), we go the Nashville route.
Mucho thanks in advance for any advice. I've scoured the boards pretty extensively and haven't found specific info on any of this, so if this has been asked already, my apologies.
personally i'd stop and get a hotel room around 1 AM depending on where that is at and then get back on the road around 7 AM. if you get in line around 2 PM on Thursday you'll probably miss the entire day.
follow the twitter list that zach put together as people will be tweeting about the line all night wednesday and thursday morning.
no one really knows how the wednesday opening will change things, but then again this is the first time it's sold out in a few years so we're going to have more people to get thru the gates.

Awesome.. definitely will bookmark that on my phone and keep track of it throughout the night tomorrow night and Thursday morning.
Coming from Nashville are we pretty much limited to one entrance? Or are there multiple options to choose from that might be shorter than others? If I can get my hands around the different options for entrances (I've seen people referring to numbered entrances, but have no idea what they mean), then we can follow the twitter and hopefully figure out which way to go?
When you go from Nashville, down 24 to Manchester you will either be routed off the interstate just before manchester or all the way past to exit 127 (i think) and either turned around to get back on 24 or off the interstate to use the side roads. Really, just follow the masses to a certain extent. You will see signs that say Bonnaroo Traffic use shoulder. When you see traffic on the shoulder, get in line behind them. When you get off the interstate there will be traffic officers directing you where to go.

I'm in the same boat. The people I'm riding with want to leave Wednesday night for some unknown reason, and probably aren't OK with getting a hotel room or anything like that. Looks like we'll be setting up camp around 5 or 6 AM, with zero sleep. Hmmmm
Set-up camp. Sleep until it's too hot. Get up, and go find the cinema tent. Sleep some more. When music starts, find shady spot near tent... rest/sleep some more.
Our situation is pretty much the same other than we took off work tomorrow to head out early. We are coming from Denver so the drive is estimated at 20 hours. We should be in the line at 3am Thursday, hopefully we can weather our excitement and take shifts getting a couple hours of sleep.
This my first Roo so you can take my advice with a grain of salt but I figure the excitement is going to carry you through the day with some naps and red bull... We did an overnight 11pm-10am drive to Arizona for spring training with very little sleep and made it through the whole day on adrenaline then slept solidly all night and were good to go for the rest of the week.
Rule Number 76: No excuses, Play (Roo) like a champion.
yea. my group is leaving around 2 am thursday morning, which puts us getting in line around 4 am. so we're gonna take turns sleeping while in line for a while until we get to Roo and set up, thursday is easy to get through, then since there are no super late night acts thursday you can crash and get a decent amount of sleep and be ready to rock all weekend
lc512: We are also leaving from Austin tomorrow afternoon. I'm in South Austin and picking up friends in Pflugerville around 1:30 or 2. We are just driving straight through and are going to just deal with whatever we get when get there. With the 15 hours of driving time (and stops), that puts us in around 7-10am. Hopefully closer to 7. I'm hoping that the 7pm Wed open streamlines stuff for early Thursday arrivers.

Ha. Nice. We're leaving from South Austin around 2:30... if you see a dirty (why wash it for the trip) new dark gray Accord with two big dudes in it... that's us.
My personal preference is just to drive it straight through. The Thursday lineup is the weakest of the 4 days, IMO, so I can catch a couple naps. Besides, like another guy said up above, the adrenaline should carry through day 1. If I can snowboard for 10 hours after a similar all night drive, I can drink beer and watch music.

We'll be in a black Dodge truck, packed up in back. Thursday is mostly for chilling and setting up camp for us. Planning on attending a couple of shows (Hayes Carll. Midnight Comedy Blaze), and then whatever we want. We'll probably pass you guys on the road. Bonnarooooo!
Question though - how are you getting 7am if you're leaving here at 2? Google Maps shows 14-15 hours, and Google Maps is usually a little slow, and will probably be even slower given that most of the driving will be easy cruising at 80 night driving. I figure we'll be there around 4am.
