Just a thought: MMJ is probably the cheapest Sunday headliner, so if they headline Sunday then it means we could have relatively larger Friday and Saturday headliners. I generally think that 2 of the headliners are pretty big and 1 is smaller (sometimes 1 big, 2 small, and another big What Stage act like Jay-Z). But it seems like every year the Sunday headliner is one of the bigger (again- that doesn't mean my favorite or anything) headliners.
What I'm getting at is that usually picking a big Saturday act and a smaller Friday act could instead mean that Friday gets a slightly bigger name than usual. I'm not saying that it'll be two (probably) really expensive bands like RHCP and Radiohead, but it doesn't seem out of the question. Whereas getting those 2 in combination with Phish seems pretty far-fetched.
Of course, this also assumes no BNA on the What Stage LN either (like Jay Z) and doesn't really help if it's a Beasties vs. Byrne type deal. And of course I really have no idea how accurate this is at all. Just some musings.

I do not see MMJ coming back two years in row. They usually do not repeat the larger acts like that year after year.

Besides Widespread panic. And the Black Keys (although, I know, they weren't as big in 2010)

Panic two years in a row was because of Greg getting sick, just the exception that proves the rule. The keys progression though was pretty consistant with say phoenix's two years in a row.

I agree about the Black Keys. It follows the Phoenix/MGMT path. WSP has played multiple years in a row another time, too. They played 02 and 03. Obviously the festival has evolved from then and is pretty different, but still.
Also, if MMJ did headline Sunday, that would be a step up in terms of set times and prestige and whatever else. That is pretty much in line with a Black Keys/Phoenix/MGMT progression.

I don't really think of it as in line, bands who get a small spot and then blow up get a larger spot so that more people can catch them. However MMJ already played a mostly unopposed What set to have them back next year would be pretty repetitive.
MMJ played a set bigger than a pre-headliner, smaller than a headliner in 2011. They haven't increased in popularity at all since last year, so it seems odd to have them back as a headliner.
Keys came back after Brothers exploded, Phoenix after Wolfgang surged, Mumford after they got huge, and same with MGMT. None of those (except maybe Keys) I would even consider the same band from one year to the next.
They've proved, with the exception of Panic, they don't invite bands back unless they undergo a huge surge in popularity that warrants an entirely new type of set.
Radiohead coming back would be fantastic Dave Grohl's stage energy is something that needs to be at Bonnaroo and i'm not really into Furthur at all, but definitely make sense as the Sunday headliner
Saw Paul Simon on Latenight Show and Neil Diamond on Macy's Day Parade. Sorry, but I'd rather not have them on the farm. 20 years ago my opinion would be different.
Okay, since you posted in two threads the exact same thing, I will too.
I saw Paul Simon live last week (as in not on tv) and it was insanely good. Played a mix of all of his albums with some S&G and legit covers. His band is the definition of tight. Would put on an excellent show at Roo.

To be fair I have never cared for paul simon, one of my fav Sat night live skits is where a guy dies, hes on the elevator Simon and Garfunkle are on the Musak, he looks over and sees the devil and asks him when is he getting to hell and the devil tells him that he is already there. Anyway that being that I saw the Dylan/Simon tour years ago and was interested to see Simon. Dylan opened and at the end PS joined him on stage and they did some S&G songs and that was real good. I put up with about an hour of the leno PS had for a show and left. It's rare I leave from a show but you can take all that graceland and african sounds and go the bleep away.
I could see him being billed 4th, but playing the headliner spot on What with a LN What after him. Like Stevie Wonder, but billed below someone who is bigger and playing LN.

If i think late night bigger act i think Daft Punk o Gaga, Paul Simon into either of them doesn't seem make sense, What lat enight act could he lead into

Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

Radiohead * Red Hot Chili Peppers * Lady Gaga * Paul Simon * My Morning Jacket * Wilco * Furthur * Neil Diamond * The Raconteurs
I approve of this; and I know it's also a lineup that my friends would really enjoy too. However, I don't see MMJ returning (at least this year) and we've never had two main stage late night acts in one year. Therefore, replace MMJ with Furthur, and add a top electronica act such as Guetta or Justice for a Which/Tent late night act (I predict Bonnaroo to capitalize on the currently huge EDM scene)

Prince.
I didn't have anyone in mind, but Prince is a good option. Obviously Daft Punk won't happen, and I highly doubt Lady Gaga will. Perhaps another big rapper, but I can't think of any that big who haven't played Roo before (excluding an Outkast reunion). I could see Bjork doing it if she weren't already booked in Europe at the time.
I don't think it really matters, though, if it "makes sense" musically (if that's what you meant, which I'm not sure that it is). Just because you're there to see one doesn't mean you need to be there to see the other. They have plenty of turnover on stages/tents all the time from one band to the next.
In terms of making sense playing at Roo, I'm trying to think of anyone I can (remember Jay-Z was partially unopposed, so have to be close to headliner status): Prince Rage Against the Machine - seem like they'd be better LN Pavement - doubtful they'll play again, but if they do end up doing another tour Gorillaz - doubtful they'll be playing this year Watch the Throne or Kanye - I guess possible. Doubt Jay-Z would want the same slot again if it's WtT though. Depeche Mode - too big? Muse - seems better LN, but still kinda doubtful they wouldn't HL friday My Morning Jacket - I guess it's unlikely they come back, and might be billed below Paul Simon Pixies - if they played, it seems as good a spot as any, I just don't know if they're that big. I'm kinda leaning towards they aren't.
Realistically: Prince, Kanye, Muse, Rage, MMJ are the only ones I can even think of.

I guess it is really unlikely.
Paul Simon-LN Prince
Paul Simon-LN Depeche Mode that'd work in my head which doesn't mean much obviously, but it's fun to type about
about 11 more weeks of speculations the glory of the off season

^^It depends on how big the act is and also how big the tour is. Usually, with a big name act, it's one city or the other. A smaller act might hit both locations; Nashville and Memphis are only 3 hours away from each other. I've gone to Memphis to see shows before.
As for the Feb date for RHCP, they could still play Roo, no problem. February is too far out to worry about.

Looking at the gap, it make RHCP a possibility as they are not scheduled anywhere during Roo. Looking closer at it, close out US dates in Feb start Euro Dates late june. Why would they send the equip to do one show in Tenn. then have to send it to Europe? Possible sure but just does not seem likely.

It is possible they have two rigs but they are not really a heavy touring band so I doubt it. If you look there is a solid month before they are switching continents. It is possible but just got a lot less likely in my book.
