Good lord, I spent the whole evening catching up. I hate when there are posts that you really want to reply to, but they are like 10 pages back, so replying at that point would be pointless.
I don't know what to make of insider's post, but i think RHCP and Radiohead are the choices, with the Stones as a distant third, since she told us about the "At least one of the four". To be honest, of all the options: RHCP, Radiohead, RATM, Rolling Stones, Roger Waters; I would be happy with any of them. So, that in itself is exciting.
Radiohead or Red Hot Chili Peppers guys. Radiohead or Red Hot Chili Peppers.
I am not really concerned since Phish is there.
If I somehow got magically put in charge of these two choices though I would book whoever between them promised to play old their old stuff. When I take the catalog as a whole I honestly think RHCP is better or equal to Radiohead. I mean RHCP has put out 15 or more years of crap, but lets be fair Uplift Mofo Party Plan, Mothers Milk, Freaky Styley, and Blood Sugar Sex Magic, are all really really good albums. If there was a opportunity to see them play only songs off of these 4 albums hitting a show would be a big priority for me. I still classify the Radiohead 06 shows of one of the best concerts I have ever seen, certainly in my top five. Still In Rainbows and especially King Of Limbs are not representative of music I see burning down the farm with a monster set at Bonnaroo.
Not a Farm-burning set; you're absolutely right. More ethereal, and "atmospheric". Sigur Ros is not easily accessible, either, but their late-night Tent a coupla years ago was epic. In the same way MMJ rainshows are epic. Acquired tastes, I reckon.
Even if I'd been napping on the grass for the first hour of Radiohead, I'd mad-hops levitate like Jordan the second they broke into "National Anthem".
I'm one of the few on the board that looks at this as win/win now. I don't understand all the hate on here for the chili peppers, but I've always dug 'em and have never had the chance to see them. I will say their new album is just not that good and I could understand not wanting to see them if you have already. I would be ecstatic if it were Phish-Radiohead-RHCP and would attend all 3 headliners for the first time.
Nothing wrong with RHCP except that they play 19 songs every time & seem to be the same setlist give or take a few. Just go to their website & check out past shows & you'll see what I mean. Uninspiring to say the least, especially for a band that has a deep catalogue like theirs.
& for others, its The Rolling Stones but she's such a tease.
Jess that post about RHCP being better than Radiohead is shameful.
Lets be fair I said the four best RHCP albums are better than the two most recent Radiohead albums. That is a statement I can stand by, certainly not who is the "better" band territory.
For context though I grew up in the early 90's listening to RHCP, a way people ten years younger grew up listening to Radiohead. I freely admit everything RHCP related post Blood Sugar Sex Magic is a piece of crap. Everything before it is pretty much damn good music though.
If we told the Chili Peppers they had to care how they performed and sounded, and could only play songs made until 1999 (Californication) then I would absolutely love to see RHCP, and would be indifferent to them or Radiohead. But I've heard they've become hit or miss over the last decade and not very inspiring/impressive. That being said, they're a phenomenal band who put out some great quacking records. And I wouldn't be opposed to them because they're a very accessible band that will get most of my friends to go, so there's that aspect.
And they've headlined Coachella and Lollapalooza. No one can really be mad if they headline Bonnaroo or act like it's anathema to a "cool" festival.

See I've only listened to a select few RHCP before Mother's Milk, like Taste the Pain, Coyotes, etc.
I'd say
OK Computer > Blood Sugar The Bends = Mothers Milk Kid A = Californication + By The Way Amnesiac > One Hot Minute Hail to the Thief = Stadium Arcadium In Rainbows + King of Limbs >>> New RHCP

Untrue, One Hot Minute was their weakest album post-BSSM, but I even enjoy that. Californiacation, By The Way, and Stadium Arcadium are really good albums.

You really need to listen to Uplift Mofo Party Plan

Not everything. Each album except the last had at least two good songs, however it has gotten progressively worse.
Stadium only has two: Dani California & Snow. By the Way has @ least two I know. Californication was their best one since Blood Sugar & One Hot Minute is underrated.
i kinda feel like fri: dre/snoop sat:radiohead possible ln phish sun:phish is entirely possible... or some sort of rap/pop act on friday... or ln rap/pop act. i just really want radiohead and dre/snoop to be there. damn im greedy

You're probably right. I don't really know how it's slipped past me.

This post is right on and I don't know why so many people hate on these albums. Cause they're different from what came before, I guess?
They are different, and I like what came before a LOT more. It's like if one day Phish started to sound like Nickelback.
