I have a small crank/solar radio with a usb port that can charge mobiles, however you have to crank it the whole time you are charging so it is a huge pain in the ass. I have a Droid, so I just bought a ton of extra batteries off Amazon for $5, but the iPhone is more challenging.
I also read reviews on Amazon and I settled on this model... www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0046LH9YY I wanted something that would clip to the outside of my backpack and my budget was lower. It worked well to charge my droid after charging it on the usb and was even powerful enough to charge my iPad, which needs the new stronger usb power to charge. I haven't tested it solar wise, but it should work just as well with a less full charge. I also have a car battery jumper/air compressor with usb ports I bought at Aldi last year. I kept it in my tent last year and used it to charge my droid at night. It worked fine, but I needed something for Centeroo during the day.
Edit: I think one of the reviewers said it didn't work with their iPhone, but that is incorrect, it has a usb port adapter, so it will work with anything you can charge via usb.
I just bought and tested this past weekend a Power Pack that holds about 25 hrs. of battery juice/life for anything that connects to a ISB including my Droid and iTouch, it's called the IMP1000 by New Trent. Basically this past memorial day weekend I didn't charge my Droid or iTouch except by using this device. It should get me through. Shipped real quick through amazon, cost approx. $80 peace, Patrick
