So here's my conundrum; a bunch of us are coming down with VIP tickets in an RV with a VIP RV parking pass. There will also be a couple of financially challenged dudes along that have GA tickets. They're planning on doing tent-only. My original plan was to arrive Wednesday evening which gives them the best chance for prime tent-only real estate and also gives us an extra night of camping.
Now, as we find out (except for Sherrie), is that GA is opening at 7pm on Wednesday and VIP opening 8am Thursday.
I'd still like to get there for Wednesday night so the GA'ers can set up camp but is it acceptable to park the RV at the VIP gates and crash for the night? We're in a fully self contained motorhome. Or if not the gate does anyone have any experience crashing in a nearby parking lot? If so where and how does the local fuzz feel about it? Any harassment?
I'm fairly certain you won't be able to park anywhere near the VIP entrance, much of the road nearby the gate will have cars travelling into POD1 and the rest really doesn't have what you would consider street parking.
Don't know how close you want to take the GA'ers but expect there to be a pretty big line to sit in.
Walmart is RV friendly. I parked an RV at the one in Tullahoma on Wednesday night last year. Not sure about the one in Manchester, but it's worth a try. The Food Lion may also be an option? Check the Camp Inforoo RV thread to see if anyone else has ideas.
The closest place to park an RV is the Wal-Mart in Manchester as it is nearly across the street from the VIP entrance. It has been RV friendly in years past as there are always a bunch of Bonnaroo RV's there each year. If you want something a bit more quiet there is a Food Lion down the street a little ways where VIP people, including those in RV's, have spent the night in the past.
We "boondock" quite frequently when we travel in our motorhome. We personally will be staying at a walmart or cracker barrel in the Cleveland, TN area Wednesday night. This is around two hours away but since we gain a hour when we cross timezones it is not bad at all.
Most walmarts, Cracker Barrels, Lowes and Home Depots allow boondocking. The problem is when town ordinances do not want this to happen, mainly because it "takes away" business form campgrounds.
Best bet is to call ahead and see if overnight camping is allowed.
Another idea is to try one of Tennessee's state parks. This (for under $20) will allow you to plug in, run some AC and top off your water tank before heading into the festival grounds on Thursday morning.
There are apps out there for overnight walmart parking (All Stays Overnight Parking) oh and don't forget the RV dumps for the ride home to dump your holding tanks.
The camping areas, including VIP), will open on Wednesday at 7:00 pm this year, according to the Bonnaroo web site. This should eliminate the over night problem. Am I wrong about this?
