Yeah I'm flying in. Knoxville to LAX. I know Ontario is closer, but Frontier doesn't fly there, so I don't have a choice.
im leaning more towards flying in. Instead of a day trip it turns into 5 hours. I can fly into Palm Springs. Im just worried about taking an air mattress and a tent on a plane. I hate checking luggage and only ever take a carry on.
Coachella 2010 was the first time I flew to a festival and it was a whole different packing scheme. Luckily I flew with someone else Southwest so we could check 4 bags plus carry ons. Checked my cooler and tent as 2 bags then 2 suitcases one was clothes and the other was the air mattress and other camping type things. But ill agree I was stressed, it took a much more strategic approach to what I would bring. ended up buying chairs when we got there and left them.
This year Im flying solo which only leaves me 1 bag and my cooler to check plus a carry on. Luckily I have a group Im meeting out there that can cover the canopy and whatnot that I cant fly. Ill probably be sleeping in my car to make room for necessities, but Coachella is a fest you can sleep in the car and not die unlike Roo.
Also if anyone is flying solo and is looking for a group of people to camp and chill with, we have a decent sized group (34) of Coachella veterans

i can't remember if i posted my flying festival camping strategy here yet or not, but this is what i did for superball this summer:
carry-on has all my clothes and toiletries and tickets and such.
one large checked bag for camping. really just my tent and my sleeping bag. instead of a pillow i just had a pillow case. stuffed the pillow case with clothes once i got there for my pillow. upon arrival bought a ten dollar chair which i left, as well as peanut butter, bread, doritos, three jugs of water, and five hour energy. i felt very comfortable the whole trip, but the weather was also pretty awesome.

I made a Spotify playlist for those who are interested. It's not comprehensive or complete by any means, but I think it's pretty good. Let me know any songs you'd like added and I'll take care of it!

Thanks, Phi. I used your Spotify list to hone in on who to see. You made it very easy to determine who was worth checking out further and who I should avoid like the plague.
coachella doesnt allow camelbaks.. fuck... im gonna die.. i will try and get that thing in until its in. fuck that stupid ass rule. migraines from the heat are not something i want to go through at a fest.

One of the best things about Coachella is that the weather is usually perfect. There's not much risk of overheating. I can't remember if they had free water stations. I would think you could get by with around a liter of agua a day when inside the stage area.
I understand music fests want to profit as much as possible but water really?!
I will be taking mine in and if I have to I will buy 5 water bottles to dump in there. I get really bad migraines in the heat if I dont drink a ton of water. So I will need to drink about a gallon a day when out there. At Roo I filled my camelbak up at least 10 times each day.
From the FAQ: "Bottled water will be sold for only $2 (same price since 1999) at numerous vendor locations. Also there will be water fountains. Yes you can bring an empty refillable bottle (no metal)."
You'll likely have to dump out anything you have in a bottle if you visit the beer tent.
Personally, I am a-ok with buying a couple of bottles of water throughout the day. They had an amazing water program a couple of years back but got rid of it last year. You buy a $10 plastic Coachella water bottle and you would be able to refill for free at a bunch of water stations where they had the giant Arrowhead jugs. They got rid of it last year when they started to set up water fountains.
I'm bringing my camelback this year, I love that thing like a brother.
Seriously. After having one this year at Roo I don't know how I survived 2010 without one. Same with one of those battery powered fans to blow on your face while you sleep.

i could be totally crazy, but i'm pretty sure they don't let you take them in. i had one and seem to remember not being able to take the bladder inside the stages last year.

They literally made me throw my bladder out last year. I had the option of going back to camp but it was a hassle, a show was about to start. I had already been inside with it twice. I was maybe excessively a dick during the process.
