This is just straight up weird. I couldnt even imagine there being TWO Bonnaroo's, or TWO Lollapalooza's, or TWO Glastonbury's. Its so odd, and really I dont see what benefit besides cash flow it would bring. The idea behind a annual festival or annual event is that is ANNUAL. Only one, something to look forward to, something that if you snooze you loose when it comes to getting tickets, something that is special. This just sucked any ounce of "special" Coachella had out for me.
This. Also, I wouldn't want to go to the 2nd one because I would want to be there for the first one, where everything is happening for the first time...
Should be concentrating their efforts into one weekend festival and making it the best it can be. If you can only hold 80k people then you make it the best weekend for those 80k. There is no benefit to this but more cash for Goldenvoice.
"Going to Coachella this weekend!!!""Oh cool Ill be there next weekend let me know how it is". lol WTF?
And clearly you aren't a rapist (I hope) but the way you pop into any thread where a woman happens to be lamenting her lack of ride to Bonnaroo and tell them to come hop on your bus sounds extremely rapey.

Exactly, if you go the second weekend and find out a week before that Arcade Fire will be dropping LED balls, it loses that "wow" factor
5/24-5/26 - EDC Chicago
6/18 - Giraffage
6/28 - Richie Hawtin
7/5-7/7 - Wavefront Music Festival
7/19 - Pearl Jam @ Wrigley
7/22 - Jay-Z & JT
8/2-8/4 - Lollapalooza
8/30 - 9/1 - North Coast Music Festival

This would be a lot better if they did it for two weekends with different line-ups like the NOLA Jazz Fest. One would think that the higher-ups at Goldenvoice would understand that Coachella could generate more revenue for the festival and companies affiliated if it were run like that.
He's like you made an über troll by taking the worst parts of me (the utter disregard for other people's opinions), Phi (cluttering up threads with memes and adding nothing to a discussion) and Jess (an apparent belief that everyone else is the problem and/or arrogance without self awareness).
Duplicating the exact same acts over two weekends, I'd think would be impossible. You might be able to book maybe 50% of them over two weekends, but probably fewer. I think logistics will make the two weekends significantly different from one another. Creative marketing fo' sure.
It's like a money-electromagnet. With the infrastructure in place, it's easy enough to turn on the current two weekends in a row. I'm sure the hotels and vendors aren't going to complain. Set it all up, and leave it standing for an extra week, and make twice the money.

This seems like a bad idea. Yeah, Coachella sold out in record time this year...but didn't it NOT sell out at all in 2010, 2009, and 2008? I honestly think that unless the lineup is mind-blowingly awesome, they'll get like 55K tickets sold per each weekend next year. Why not just, say, spread the grounds out some more and add 10K tickets next year?
This idea strikes me as terrible, and (I would think) completely cheapens the Coachella experience for people who attend on a regular basis.
I don't troll the Coach boards, are people there losing their sh*t over this?
I really hope this bites Goldenvoice in the ass, because if it turns out to be a huge success then its only a matter of time before something like this gets implemented for Bonnaroo.

I think most artists playing this format will hate it as well. One of the best things about a show setup like this is the spontaneity of the moment. The second time through would seem like a bad rehash for me.
Music fuels us as we continue to conquer the battlefields of boredom and artistic freedom.
If it moves you, go with it. To waste that moment is a tragedy-The Pondo Army Movement

This is an interesting development. My first thought was that it was a good idea, but thats only in theory. In reality, it definitely cheapens the whole experience. I will be very surprised if they sell out both weekends.

Well, now People magazine will have two weekends wherein they can catch the stars at Coachella.

Reduce $/ticket a *little*? You get to see the same show but for a slightly cheaper price, and have a little more choice in scheduling.
Really? I saw some quote about it only selling 60K or so 3-day passes for 2010.
the camping sold out really fast I dont think the fest did. I went that year and we had problems getting rid of tix. If it did it was nowhere near as quick as this year.

If I wanted to see a run of the mill performance, than I would see quacking acts play here. I have zero interest in seeing Arcade Fire drop the balls a second time. That was an amazing surprise and doesn't work on the 2nd time. I loved my time in 2010, but I just went from buying a ticket pre-sale, to waiting on a line up.
2013 Pitchfork and TBA 2012 Bonnaroo and Maha Festival 2011 WakaROO (Wakarusa and Bonnaroo) Maha Festival 2010 Coachella 2009.... First Roo 2008 lost my festival virginity to Wakarusa
