Speaking of Girl Talk, and because I don't want to go find his own thread, what's the process for getting on stage at his shows? Do you just have to be close to the front when they start letting people up?
When I saw him Dallas they had a line on the side of the stage that they opened up when he came on. But when I saw him in Tulsa everyone basically rushed the stage. I was right in front of his table and I crawled underneath it and ended up dancing by him most of the night. In retrospect that was probably not a good idea though.
People tend to make bad decisions at Girl Talk shows. You're not the first.

ended up on stage with him at his university of kentucky show. the people taking tickets just asked me and my friends if we would like to go up on stage. not sure why they picked us out of the line. we were the most boring looking people in line (i mean, i had a plain brown shirt on). had to meet backstage right before the show. The girl in charge kept calling him "Mr. Girl Talk" which i thought was odd.
I think in the Roo setting and not a school it will just be a rush the stage and security stops you once its full type thing

I think that's pretty solid. I might switch Bootsy and Dr John around but even that could go either way. Looks good though.
I'd end up at Big Boi>Pretty Lights or Shpongle on Friday Girl Talk vs Bootsy vs Gogol would suck but I'd probably end up at Bassnectar so I might just stay at the This dance party tent.

They should utilize the stages for late night's more, Especially which. I get really claustrophobic in those tents, and in a situation like Dr. John I feel like him being in a tent cause some insane overflow.
I think this is it right here. Only thing Id have different is give Ratatat more than an hour, and start Big Boi at 12 as opposed to 1230 to give STS9 more time to play
1-1-12 Bassnectar NYE SHOW! 1-21-12 G. Love and Special Sauce 3-1-12 Radiohead 3-9-12 Experience Hendrix 5-15-12 Jack White @ The Ryman 6-7-12 Bonnaroo 6-19-12 Roger Waters presents "THE WALL" 7-7-12 Ringo Starr's 72nd Birthday Party Extravaganza at the Ryman
I'd switch around That and the Other Friday and possibly Saturday also...I just don't see Big Boi and STS9 playing on the smaller stage than Black Angels and Shpongle
I have been curious about one thing. How crowded do these tents get at night? Is it possible to wander tent to tent getting a decent spot, or do you really need to be there before the band starts if you expect to have a decent view and good access to the sound? I guess what i'm asking is if the tents fill up or if people constantly flutter in and out.

It really all depends on the show and what acts are conflicting. I've been to some sets where I was able to walk right up and get a good spot with no problems, and others where I was there for over 45 minutes and could barely get under the roof of the tent.
If you want to be right up front, you will need to get there early; a fair number of people will skip some or all of the headlining act to stake out really good spots for the late-night shows. However, that's not necessary unless you're deadset on being within 10-15 feet of the stage. Most shows you can wander up and get at least a semi-decent view.
Sound shouldn't be an issue - Roo has some of the best soundsystems I've ever seen, and they keep it loud enough so that people in the back can easily hear the show. However, soundbleed can be a bit of a problem if you're too far back. The only time I've had a good spot during late-night and still experienced soundbleed was during Sigur Ros in '08 - there were some extremely quiet moments during their set that were somewhat spoiled by the overlapping sounds of Chromeo and Lupe Fiasco.

Some late night tent shows will be packed and seriously overflowing, while some won't even fill the tent. It just depends on the acts and conflicts. There is also a constant flow of people in and out of shows in the late night hours so you may start at the back and by the end of the show be up close.
I somehow wondered up real close (maybe 3 rows back from the stage) halfway through LCD last year. I think people saw me dancing up and just decided that I needed to be closer then them.
Sometimes you just get lucky and people are nice enough to let you have fun.

I walked into the third row of Bassnectar last year about fifteen minutes into the set. I came in from the side, and didn't have to "push" my way through. Wide open gaps between people. All depends on the act. The next night at Deadmau5, the same approach did not work.
Like others have said, it all really depends on who you're seeing and when you get to the tent. I got to The Black Keys last year about 30-40 minutes before the show started and I was right behind the soundboard.
For Femi Kuti, even though I skipped Phish to see him and got there super early, the tent was probably the emptiest I have ever seen for a late-night show.
Why don't they ever use the stages for late nights? I'm just curious, I feel like this would make it much easier for everyone to get a good spot. I know that the Flaming Lips were on Which last year but aside from that it's all tents... Same with all day Thursday, all of the shows are in tents.

There is usually one Which Stage late night show each year, and in recent years there has been a late night on What Stage as well. So they do use them for acts that draw a crowd that big, but usually they do a good job of putting acts against each other to even out the crowd.
