I've always found it mildly amusing how people go apesh*t for jambands covering bands they wouldn't normally touch with a ten-foot pole. My favorite all-time instance of this was when Umphrey's and moe. played back to back Metallica covers at Bonnaroo 2004. The crowd lost it - just absolutely insane. And these weren't like ultra hetty noodly jammy covers either, pretty much straight up replications of the original, only not as good. Yet four years later, it was like "Metallica headlining? F*CK THAT SH*T."
I guess my question is, how many of the people at that Panic show would be caught dead watching Motorhead?
This was my first panic show that wasn't at a festival (Hangout 2011 and Wanee 2013). I've never given a shiz about them and those festival sets kinda bored me, but I had a really good time at the Halloween show. I only went because it was conveniently the day before Voodoo and a bunch of my friends were going. I'm glad I went though. My friends think they played it because I was there. They could feel my vibes, bro. Now that I realize how good they can be live, I wouldn't mind seeing them again, but I seriously doubt that I would ever see a show on par with that Halloween show. All of the WSP people around here say they are at the top of their game right now though, so I really don't have a problem with them being at Roo next year if I decide to go based on the rest of the lineup. I also saw Umphreys cover Ace of Spades last year at Bear Creek, but it was nowhere near as good as WSP's cover.
I love Motorhead. I have only gotten to see them live twice, but they were awesome. Metallica made great music in their prime, but they are extremely cheesy live now.
Beem to 3 shows this year...they absolutely killed it. I would be fine with them headlining again but I also would love a late night which field set...just put them on the bill so I can have atleast one solid 4 hour dance sesh
