Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Sorry Julie, not trying to be mean. But I did want to know the whole story before I posted my thoughts.
No I understand you're not being mean. I'm not trying to be mean either. I'm confused... it all reminds me of that picture that people often post: "This is the internet; it's serious business".
I've never had a problem with a mod or anyone else on this board; and I find that facebook bashing never helped anyone's cause.
Funny thing about the chat was that mods went to it regularly and many seemed to enjoy it. But I guess things change.
Let us all hope that the suspension stays at the duration that was stated, otherwise inforoo will have lost some of it's most entertaining members.
Mod bless inforoo?
Wrong, Ive been in the chat once, and it was when someone PM'd me and told me to go in there becasue I was being bashed....Imagine that, bashing going on in the chat....
some people use this forum for the specific purpose of quacking with people. That is not what inforoo is about, that is not why we exist, and Adam made the decision that people who were using this forum for those pruposes will be banned. they do not fit the vibe of inforoo and they only bring the board down.
Who was doing this? Certainly not willsfc. Certainly not alpaca. Certainly not ox64, nodepression, or awatd.
I would be literally shocked if you or adam could cite a single case in which an internet chatroom used for discussion of a product or service was found to be violating the copyright/trademark of that product or service based on the name of said chatroom. It's patently ridiculous, and it's being used as an excuse to ban good people from this forum.
And I quote: <Adam> This is Adam from Inforoo™. Last warning, tell your friends. I'm about 99.9% sure that anyone continuing to use the #inforoo IRC chat after midnight eastern time tonight will be banned from Inforoo™ If you want to chat go chat somewhere else
They aren't coming back in a week. They may come back using TOR or IPProxy or something, but we will know as soon as they do, becasue they HAVE to make their presence know. they need the attention.....
You're treating this as if some of the most well-respected members of inforoo are devious trolls on the level of rothandroo or that other guy whose name i don't remember. They're not. Willsfc is the guy who records roo shows and posts them for us. Nodepression is the resident angry hipster. You get the point...

You know as well as I do that there isonly 1 (ONE) mod that frequents the chat room, cks
Don't try to legitimize it by saying the modS hang out there, only one does....
That's not what I said. I said there are other mods than you.
Im not trying to say im the only mod. I was addressing the fact that you made it sound like there were a multitude of mods hanging out in the chat all the time and I simply pointed out that I personally had been in there one time.
Jay may have USED to use it, but I doubt he uses it very much anymore, especuially here lately, am I right? Yeah, i thought so!
Alisa is the ONLY one that hangs out in there any more....That was my point.
Jeeeesus y'all. Everyone needs to stop taking themselves so seriously and have some fun. This is a message board to celebrate the most fun thing around.
By the way I would like to thank the mods for allowing this discussion to take place and not just locking the thread. Granted none of the banned people can defend themselves, but still.
Not for nothing man, but the way the ban system works around here is such that those who have been banned can't easily defend themselves. In the interest of fairness to those who catch the ban, and their ability to give their version of the events, don't they pretty much HAVE to make a duplicate account? They can't even send a PM to a mod without making a duplicate. So it's somewhat unfair to chastise people for doing that when it's really their only way to respond. Otherwise, so-and-so gets banned, someone asks "what happened?", we get the Official Inforoo Version of Events, and that's that.
So why did he need the second one? As far as I know, the first dupe wasnt banned....yet.
You are right Juggs, the banning system on here leaves a lot to be desired! Not only can the "banned" not plead thier case, but it is also very easy to get around an IP ban. the username/email addy is easily faked....
Look guys, obviously I am going to defend whatever I think is right, just like the rest of yall are doing, BUT, one again, (And I am glad of this) I did not ban these people. All I can tell you is what I already have....
That's not what I said. I said there are other mods than you.

I wasn't trying to imply that to start with. Just a miscommunication.

But, at least they got somewhere to "chat" about it....
Or do they? I'm assuming staying on chat will result in the suspension becoming permanent. Am I mistaken?
you will have to ask Adam what the terms are. I really dont know.
But you have to at least admit, If they really wanted to be members here, wouldn't they have simply stopped using Adams property the first time they were asked? I think it is more about keeping the arguement going.
You dont get to go to someone elses house and just act anyway you want. If you do, and that person asked you to change your behaviour, and you dont, that person has every right to remove you from their home.
I know yall dont like to hear this, but it is the truth. Adam owns this board and the name inforoo. This is not a public forum.

I will say that the fact that these people were banned for "attacking" new members or whatever is bullshit. They're all really helpful users and awesome contributors to actual music discussion around here. Can this not be fixed? The chat is done. The panties are unwadded. Let's be cool and go back to being a fun-loving community. Without those users Inforoo will be lacking a lot of really great contributions, particularly to the Which Stage.
Or do they? I'm assuming staying on chat will result in the suspension becoming permanent. Am I mistaken?
you will have to ask Adam what the terms are. I really dont know.
I think we have found the root of the problem. One of the most active mods on this board doesn't know the terms of the board are. It shouldn't be that difficult for him to inform his assistants what the rules they are expected to enforce are.

In order to clear things up and confirm the REAL reason why multiple members were recently banned from this forum, here is an unadulterated chat log from 2 nights ago: [16:01] <Adam> This is Adam from Inforoo™. Last warning, tell your friends. I'm about 99.9% sure that anyone continuing to use the #inforoo IRC chat after midnight eastern time tonight will be banned from Inforoo™ If you want to chat go chat somewhere else
Allow me to further proceed with my dissection of the situation:
Make no mistake, these individuals WERE NOT banned for "using a chatroom" as some on here have implied.
Judging by the above quote from Inforoo&trade administrator "Adam", multiple users were, in fact, banned for participating in a chat room. I'm certain that "Dave Matthews Band Fan In Tennessee" will claim otherwise, citing imaginary entities like "vibes" that have been tarnished. How, if that is a legitimate reason, do members such as Wolfman Jess continue to post freely on this forum? He has spent a great portion of his five-figure posting career bashing new members and wielding his seniority over others, using "Dave Matthews Band Fan In Tennessee" as his personal enforcer. If you ask me, it's pretty pathetic that the staff of this site needs to resort to hush tactics in order to conceal the truth from its own users. I don't know what kind of (((vibes))) the staff of this forum are trying to maintain, but my mellow has without a doubt been harshed.
As far as the chartroom goes, that does play a part. Look guys, you can laugh and call it petty all you want, but Adam owns the copywright to the Inforoo name. That group was asked nicely, not nicely and everyway in betweento stop using his property. Not only did they refuse, but they made childish little 7th grade jokes about it.
Here is an exchange between Adam and one of the volunteers in What.cd's help channel. Some of you may recognize What.cd as the largest private torrent tracker on the internet, which gives this discussion a even more hilarious context.
#what.cd-help 21:24:44 < Adam> Hi I'd like to speak with an admin about a channel that is intrfringing upon my trademark
After I told him #what.cd-help was members only:
21:28:09 -!- Irssi: Starting query in What with Adam 21:28:09 <DutchDude> so... 21:28:17 <DutchDude> What.cd is a illegal torrent site 21:28:23 <Adam> apologies if I was in the wrong place, 21:28:38 <DutchDude> do you expect that moderators here will take down a trademark infringement? 21:29:08 <Adam> I was directed there by "drone" on #what-network 21:29:21 <Adam> is there somewhere someone can go to speak with an admin? 21:30:02 <DutchDude> ehmmm, let me think 21:30:13 <DutchDude> it's a bit of a strange situation 21:30:33 <DutchDude> I think you will be laughed at, actually 21:30:54 <Adam> I figure its an easy fix from what-networks end so that we can all avoid the attorneys 21:31:11 <DutchDude> you can't sue these people 21:31:22 <DutchDude> as said, this is an illegal filesharing site 21:31:34 <DutchDude> no names, no adresses 21:31:39 <Adam> what-network is? I thought it was an IRC host 21:31:58 <DutchDude> the irc host operated by what.cd, the largest private torrent site on the internet 21:32:29 <DutchDude> see where the unlikelyhood of being treated seriously comes in? 21:32:29 <Adam> hmmm 21:32:35 <Adam> yeah 21:32:50 <DutchDude> I think you should go back to #what-network, and use the !MOD command 21:32:54 <Adam> SO why do they bother having terms of service? 21:33:05 <Adam> I'll do that, thanks for the advice 21:33:05 <DutchDude> copypasta, probably 21:33:28 <DutchDude> use "!mod contact me please", or something like that 21:36:24 <Adam> can I post my corporate email address for them to get in touch with me?
It is true, the members of the chat room in discussion have been threatened with legal action, promising letters from lawyers who I am certain do not exist. There is really only one reason why the creators of the chat room have not faced any legal action: THEY ARE NOT BREAKING ANY LAWS.
The #inforoo chat is protected by United States trademark law, and in specific, a doctrine known as Fair Use:
Non-commercial use of a trademark is generally that use which is not related to the sale of goods or services. If no funds are solicited or earned by using someone else's mark, this use is not normally infringement.
Trademark rights protect consumers from purchasing inferior goods because of false labeling. If no goods or services are being offered, or the goods would not be confused with those of the mark owner, or if the term is being used in a literary sense, but not to label or otherwise identify the origin of other goods or services, then the term is not being used commercially.
The creators of #inforoo are under no legal obligation to delete or change the name of their chat, so why is it that they should be banned under the pretense of having broken the law? Something seems a little off about that. Perhaps the staff of this site have decided to use imaginary laws to carry out their own malicious agendas? It is a mystery!
Make no mistake, these individuals WERE NOT banned for "using a chatroom" as some on here have implied. This was a long time in the making, everyone of them have had many chances and opportunties to cool it with the crap, THEY chose to continue, so Adam chose to ban them.
If the above is true, what staff member would care to provide reasoning for the banning of alpaca? How about willsc? Ox64? Curteebee? I double-dog dare you to point out even a single instance in which any of made a malicious comment toward another user. If you're going to lie to your own members and claim that this is the reason for what happened, then you need to be able to provide an explanation for each of the above members being banned.
Perhaps if the staff of this website were a little bit more honest and forthcoming, this board wouldn't be in such a state of unrest. Some people do value the truth.
As an aside directed at "Dave Matthews Band Fan In Tennessee", it isn't wise to call people childish when you are a grown man and still struggle to write even the most rudimentary of sentences. There is no such thing as a "copywright". On that note, Inforoo isn't even copyrighted. It's trademarked. Idiot.
No, I dont know what Adam has decided on this group. I know the rules of the board (not quite sure what the "terms of the board" would mean hhmm). Adam will decided if/when they come back. That is what I really dont know about. If it really concerns you that much bacon, send Adam a PM and stop trying to make me look like an idiot or that I dont know what I am talking about.
you will have to ask Adam what the terms are. I really dont know.
I think we have found the root of the problem. One of the most active mods on this board doesn't know the terms of the board are. It shouldn't be that difficult for him to inform his assistants what the rules they are expected to enforce are.
There aren't terms regarding the chat situation because it's the first time it's happening.

Idiot.
I apologize I am not trying to make you look an idiot I would put the blame on Adam for not informing you not on you for not knowing it.
For the record I have PM'ed and emailed Adam multiple times throughout this ordeal and have never gotten more than a generic response that didn't answer my question if I got a response at all.
