1. I discovered earlier today that my pronunciation of their name (pronounce the Ope like in hope) is not how my friend says it (Op like in op-ed).....anyone know which is correct? Apparently, it's not a "real" word per dictionary.com
2. There didn't seem to be a general Opeth thread...if there is, feel free to lock this one.
3. They're pretty awesome...wish I could see em....no way my wife'll go for it.
I really love their softer stuff, but when they want to kick ass, they can stomp right through your asshole. Great band. "Damnation" was the first album I owned by them, but "Deliverance" might be my favorite. It's a rare band, in metal, where they start as a REALLY good act, and over the years just enhance everything for their next album. I loved, loved, loved Watershed.

hahahah. it is o-peth. thats how it is pronounced. great band. very very very good live. stellar sound. stellar performance. seen them, baroness, and high on fire back in 08. I would highly recommend checking them out. especially watershed. the guy is actually one hell of a singer.
As much as I want to see Bela Fleck and Atmosphere, I think I've decided to stay in That Tent all day Friday and see Graveyard>Kylesa>The Sword>Opeth, then try to catch some of Ray or the Decemberists. My friends will definitely stay for NOFX, but I really am not a big fan and would rather catch Decemberists and get a good spot for MMJ... can't wait for Opeth & The Sword!!!

I used to go to Ozzfest when I was in high school. It isn't happening this year and has sucked hard since 2006.
I'm really happy that Bonnaroo seems to be even more open to metal than ever before. Baroness and GWAR were awesome last year. NIN was AMAZING in '09 too bad Down was taken off of the bill. I think Opeth will really bring people into the metal scene. They really are just incredible. I also love seeing metal acts at Bonnaroo because there is a little less moshing and a bunch more appreciation for the music. I'm fine with the pit in general, but I've found there is less being crushed at the front of the stage at Bonnaroo. That will be a long day in that tent, but between that and the primus set, shpongle and Bordello late nights, I'm so excited for this year! HORNS UP!
It's tough. There aren't necessarily that many really quality metal bands that could play Bonnaroo,
C'mon now, that's not true. Pelican, Baroness, Mastodon, Valkyrie, Between The Buried And Me, Earthless, Torche, Red Sparrows, Saviours, Russian Circles, The Sword, Sleep, Kylesa, Pentagram, Isis, Graveyard, Witchcraft, Tidal Arms, Queens Of The Stone Age, Red Fang, Opeth, Dillinger Escape Plan, Down, Earth, High On Fire, Ancestors, Howl, Corrosion Of Conformity, Clutch, Tusk, Cave In, Floor, Saint Vitus, Scale The Summit, Tool, Animals As Leaders, Stinking Lizaveta, Boris, These Arms Are Snakes, Dub Trio, and of course: Slayer. Hell, that's a fest right there, I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. There is so much good metal out there right now.
The best thing about Opeth is that they can seemlessly transition from piano to death metal to an acoustic ballad in the course of 8 measures. It's jaw dropping to see a band live that is that tight. The first time I saw them they played 7 songs and the show was just under an hour and a half.
