Ordering my purple El wire today for Gogol late night. Making a "Got Purple?" t shirt with it, Jacketmans excellent Bonnaroo example looks like 15ft should be enough.
I totally can see that. Nice work. Is that front and back? Or are you going to combine them together? Fishing line or clear thread works when sewing into or on shirts and black tape over area of the wire you don't want to see.
The mushroom is the front and the Bonnaroo is the back. I ordered a pack that comes with up to 4 different colours attached to the power supply.

Double check this, I could be wrong, You have two wire, el-wire, and 4 ports? I think you have to have el-wire connected to all ports or it does damage to the Driver(power supply). Like I said I could be wrong, but I thought I read that somewhere. and what ever you do do not use too much wire as allowed by your driver. If your driver is set to run 20-50 feet, do not use more than a total of 50 feet of el-wire. If you have two colors on the shirt and 4 ports, why not get two more colors? Maybe combine the Bonnaroo and mushroom together and use the other two ports to make something else. Just a thought.
They wire everything before its shipped which ensures its done right. The instructions that came with said not to disconnect from the driver or it will screw it up. They have drivers that do up to 4 colours with the package I ordered. They put everything together for you so when it comes you just throw in batteries and go. There is a bunch of different packages or you can just order parts and put it together yourself.
I'm going to play around with a couple different designs before I sew it into a shirt. All the electronic gear it kind of bulky so cargo shorts are going to be a must. I'm not sure if all drivers are 8 AA batteries but that's where the majority of the bulk comes from in my set up.

www.save-on-crafts.com/orbs3.html so tempted... glowing orbs on stakes. could be good as decor around the canopy and near stakes where guy lines are tied and whatnot.
OK, this is the final version of my shirt. In these pictures the EL wire is just taped in but it has been ran through the shirt. I poked holes to have gaps between letters and to have specific starting and ending points to give it a cleaner, sharper look. When it gets sewn (sp?) in I am using clear thread I picked up at walmart. By me sewing it in I mean my finace is sewing it in. LOL. Sorry if these pics come up gigantic again, I don't know how to resize them. Total time after sewing, 3 hours. Total cost for shirt and wire, $60.

The letter will look better after sewing, scotch tape sucks.
We ordered from the portable el wire kits section, the one that comes with multiple colours. If I were you I'd order ASAP if you're planning on picking some up. Not sure how long it will take to get to you but it took 3 weeks or more for me to get the delivery. Probably because it was an international order. If you email them they are very quick to respond and they probably have rush shipping for US customers.
Just got one of the green 5mW kaleidascoping laser pointers. Pretty excited to play with it. I think this and maybe a few glowsticks for each night will be the only toys I bring.
So I have a question for you guys. We were discussing yesterday where to pack our EL wire shirts for the trip down. We are flying from Canada so that means we are subject to ridiculous, unecessary airport bull shit thanks to the crotch bomber. What do you guys recommend, carry on and show them what it is and how it works or put it under the plane and risk them scanning our bags and thinking there is a bomb in them?
Good question Jacketman (and looks great!). If you do not get a warm and fuzzie answer you could mail them to us (or another Inforoo-er) thats driving and we could transport and meet up thursday. I'm flying part of the way as well but Quacker is driving. Our glowing Quacker flag is definately going by land.
OK, so I just got off the phone with the Canadian/US Head of airport security and customs or whatever the hell its called in Ottawa. This was their advice; For International OR domestic flights it is better to take the EL wire in your carry on baggage. They said to show up earlier than normal at security and be prepared to demonstrate how the wire works as well as explaining to one or more levels of security what it is, where you got it and how it works. The alternative to this is checking your baggage, having them x-ray it and probably rip your bag appart and then page you to come and explain it to them. This is the answer I expected from them, I just didn't even think about this at all until a couple days ago. Hopefully this helps fellow air travelers.
Still learning the orbit, but it's pretty damn cool. And the colors are way better. They look shoddy cause I had to set my webcam settings weird for it to capture enough time for a full circle
i lost my orbits in Boston (or maybe a shady friend stole them?)
I dont wanna pay for them again only to lose them again. If you guys see me, let me take pictures of the light trails!! I love taking pictures more than bein the 1 doin it, kinda.
just come up to me if you want to take pics/vids! i won't mind the documentation
orbits aren't too bad to learn...i had a cheap ($15) premade one to test the waters with for a few months and played with it here and then and learned a couple tricks. i recommend if you're interested
BUT about a month ago i dropped about $50 on those new lights (there's different brands, and all sorts of colors and patterns you can get) and some better string and have been practicing for about an hour every other night and have made incredible progress. it takes work to learn the finesse of it, but if you are creative and dont mind some sore fingers and arms its not too hard to get good at.
i believe poi is a lot harder to learn. spinning in general be it poi or flowsticks or glow sticks is pretty difficult if you want to be GOOD at it.
