Saturday late night is the worst of all conflicts fer me. Bootsy, Dr. John, and Scissor Sisters were all on my must see list. And they're all playin' at the same time! I think without a doubt though I'm gonna at least start at Bootsy, and see where the night goes!
I have to quote this segment, which may be the best answer I've ever read to a stupid question:
Questioner: So the first few times back on stage you're not able to play and sing like you used to, and one night it just happens. Imagine that you're explaining what that feels like to someone who's never touched an instrument, who doesn't have a musical bone in their body.
Bootsy: Wow... Let me think. Well, let me not think. What that feels like... Have you ever had sex?
Questioner: Are you asking me?
Bootsy: Yeah, have you ever had sex?
Questioner: Yes.
Bootsy: Well, it's kinda like havin' sex in a non-standard way. Maybe a wild and crazy sex, you know? Like one minute you're bangin it, the next minute you're rubbin' it, you're trying to see if any smoke gonna come out of it. You oozin' out your oozey, she's oozin' out her oozey. You lookin' up at it. You lookin' down at it. It's all kind of things that the universe has to offer, and it's all yours.
It's like you just wallow in it. This is the moment. This is where everything was created from: between an ass and a peehole. It's like, this is the grooviest part of living, this is where we all came from.
Then we ask, what is funk? That's funk right there. Being born between an ass and a peehole.
I know, but so will !!!. I wish I didn't have to do so, but it's really no contest as to who I'll see, and unfortunately it's not Bootsy. He's a great musician and it'll definitely be an awesome show, but !!! is one of my favorite bands and I have wanted to see them forever.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
Great NPR interview with Bootsy about his new album. I cannot wait to see him live for the first time! Longtime fan, but never with the opportunity to see him perform.

Because Devotchka ended so late(7ish)... Bootsy went on around 830... It took the sound guys awhile to check all the mics and instruments.... Show was really damn good though... P Funk, Hendrix and Sly and the Family stone tunes aplenty. I thought it was def worth the wait.

Some of these late shows seemed to be because they want to play when it got dark. I thought that for the super jam and bootsy. How many times can you check the same microphone and say "yeah...yeah? yeah yeah! yeeeeah? yeah?" before you know the microphones working correctly. They would have the check pretty much set and then check it over and over and over. I was pretty sure there was another reason.
This was easily one of the best sets of the weekend - unfortunately since it started so late I had to leave it early to catch another of the best sets of the weekend...Buffalo Springfield.
