Galactic is going to be in town next Saturday, and I'm trying to decide if I should really go or not. I was going to check them out, but I'm strapped for cash lately (trying to save up for Ultra and Bonnaroo) Basically, while they've played at every Bonnaroo I've been to, I've never had a chance to see them live (at first I was uninterested, later on I wanted to catch them but there were conflicts) I've been getting really into Jam music over the past two years. I really enjoy rock n roll jam stuff like Phish, and jamtronica stuff like bisco, etc, and moderately enjoy southern rock stuff like WSP and Furthur. But I've never heard a jazz/funk jam band. Jazz isn't something I'm into at all, but it's something I can appreciate. It's kind of an unexplored musical territory for me. I listed to a couple songs from galactic off the internet and wasn't particularly moved by anything, but I imagine seeing them live is a totally different experience.
Basically I need to be swayed one way or the other here. I need some opinions. Is galactic worth $35 of my hard earned dollars? Will I get anything out of it that I couldn't get going to a local jazz club for an evening?
I have seen galactic maybe 15 times since 06, and I have never seen a bad show. I am catching the Nashville one myself. Is yours going to have the guy from Living Color there?

Thanks for reminding me! Here's the NYC lineup, gonna be a helluva party
Mardi Gras Madness: GALACTIC and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue with special guests Corey Glover (of Living Colour), Cyril Neville, Corey Henry (Rebirth Brass Band), Ivan Neville, and High and Mighty Brass Band
Without a doubt one of the best shows you will see all year. Along with Billy Martin of MMW, Stanton Moore is probably the best drummer I've ever seen live. I would check out the album Late For The Future or their Live at Tipitina's release if I were you, to see if I was interested. I think those two recordings, while not my favorite Galactic releases, probably represent their live show the best.

I'm going to the show this Friday in Orlando, Ive seen them a couple of times and they are outstanding. Corey glover is the kid from Living Color back in the day with the long braided hair. I'm assuming he'll be doing mostly vocals at the show. Based on the rest of the bands in your sig I would think it would be hard for you not to have a good time.

I don't think the rest of the bands in my sig are anything like Galactic at all... But I'm certain I'll enjoy it...
About to pull a crazy weekend. I'm driving to Orlando straight 3.5 hours from work fri to go see Does it offend you, yeah? in Orlando, then driving back saturday afternoon back to fort lauderdale to see galactic. Going to be a ridiculous, fun, and expensive weekend. And I know I won't regret it

I can't wait for our Valentine's Day show. I've never seen them before either. I've always had something else going on when they were in town. But the significan other wants to do this for Valentine's Day. Best GF ever

I just got back from the show and it was quacking amazing. Stanton Moore is a quacking beast. I've got cool video of his solo at the end of the show, only pieces though, I hate myself for not getting it all. Video clips of them tonight will follow. For what its worth I talked to Stanton after the show and he said they weren't sure about Bonnaroo. He seemed full of Leno when he said it, he kind of gave me a wind. I'd bet they would be there.
I was going to post and ask if I should go see Galactic, but I thought I would search first and found this. They are playing in Jax Beach on Friday, tickets are 20$ and the place holds 700 at capacity.
From what I see in this thread, I should probably go... So I think I will!
Edit: they are playing Thursday night, but it changes nothing. Im going.
A galactic show is always a funky good time, and I can't believe anyone could dislike corey glover! He absolutely murdered crosstown traffic when I saw them in february

My only complaint is that I wish they would do cult of personality.
