Akron/Family will release their new album, S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT, on February 8 in the US and March 14 in the UK.
A press release states that the album was "written in a cabin built into the side of Mount Meakan, an active volcano in Akan National Park, on the island of Hokkaido, Japan. It was recorded in an abandoned train station in Detroit with the blackest white dude we all know, Chris Koltay (Liars, Women, Deerhunter, Holy quack, No Age). Chris, on tour after finishing the record, commented: “This album will transcend the Internet.”

Judging from the "sound fragments" above, it's going to be noisy and delicious. I found a youtube video for "So It Goes" but it's such terrible quality it's not worth posting. Anyway, who is stoked on this?

Wish I read that before I experienced an utterly confusing first listen of the leaked version. The bits and pieces that I can pick out sound good though, and the song they posted online that is real is actually pretty awesome. I think this album is gonna be serious business.
The whole album has been on the net for a while, am I the only one who has heard it? If you like old Akron/Family, you will definitely like this. Quality psych folk
Every version of the album I get is layered with several different copies of the tracks running 3 seconds apart. Just found it streaming online for anyone else with this problem. Seems great so far.

These guys are so good. Only recently got into them but they are very unique. I am hoping they will be a late add and rock Troo Music or maybe a Thursday night tent.
I really like the new album alot. It feels like a natural progression from Set 'em Wild. Looking forward to seeing 'em again in a couple weeks. Here's a vid from the last time I saw 'em......
I guess since 2/8 has passed, I'll change the thread title. Now we can just lavish the band with praise and hope to the heavens above that they get added to Roo. Also, I need them to announce a date close by.
I was lucky enough to get to design the poster for Tampa's recent Akron/Family show.
Too bad their show was non-sense, arrogance, and boring noise with no complexity.
The singer complained that he wasn't feeling well, which might have been why the venue posted signs at the door advising that smoking in the club would not be permitted. He seemed as bored with his bands performance as me and my friends were.
^ Talk about a completely opposite experience in Atlanta last night. They absolutely destroyed it. During "Another Sky" they had the whole crowd doing the chant part as Seth and Miles were running around the room creating a total frenzy and more or less moshing with people. Miles (the bassist) grabbed onto a support beam along the ceiling and hung there once he got back onstage and the whole room was just enveloped in joyful noise and chaos. It was one of the best shows I've been to in a while. Unfortuntely mc, I didn't think to ask him about Bonnaroo.
