I've seen Jay-Z 8-9 times now and he puts on an amazing show every time. Hands down my favorite rapper and is up there on my top shows. #1 is easily Paul Mccartney at Citi Field w/ special guest Billy Joel- #2 would probably be a tie between any of the Jay Z shows + Rage Against the Machine at Rock the Bells
i have to admit i laughed at your last post, itrainmonkeys.
Once I saw you complain about forgetting lyrics I immediately thought of Bob Weir and Ratdog forgetting the words to St. Stephen in 2007. Then the "annoying hype" thing made me jump right to Franti who can be obnoxious with his crowd hype.
the dude has been forgetting the lyrics to St. Stephen since at least 1972... listen to 'Ladies and Gentleman...'
Franti was one of my favorite shows in 2007 at Roo. He was amazing. Having seen him a few more times after that and it's essentially the same thing....only more poppy and happy. He seemed more safe now.
He's still good and I think he has some great music.......but you can't deny that half of his show is him yelling "CAN YOU HEAR ME" and "HOW YOU FEELIN!"
Saw him from the front row of the Ryman. He has toned that down some. But yea, he does like to know how your feelin. ;D
Here's his feet BTW.
Somebody mentioned the 5,000,000 "how you feeling!" last year and it was all I could think about at last year's show.

I have to say this thread becomes infinitely better when people are just reminiscing about past shows rather than squabbling over rumors.
+1,000,000 for Jay-Z, he was by far the one to surpass all expectations last year. I wouldn't be surprised if he returns in a few years, just from all the great feedback. It's too soon now, but I'll be calling for him again by Roo '13.

Of the 5 people I was with last year, the reviews of Jay-Z peaked at awesome (from the person that rated Zach Brown Band the second best show of the week) to "can we leave for Thievery Corp yet"..... I've seen thousands of shows, not a huge fan of live rap, but every good live rap show I've seen has been in a small hall. Snoop playing in front of 350 people completely blew away his 09 set at Roo.
I've attended Roo the last three years, and of the headliners those years, I'd put Jay-Z ahead of Beasties, and that's it. That Beasties show really let me down!
I'm OK with Rap/Hip Hop on the Farm, but it's definitely a waste of a headliner slot.
i know it not much but the bonnaroo facebook posted this............
