Pink Floyd is one of the most frequently discussed bands on this board. The Dark Side of the Moon is universally recognized as one of the greatest albums of all time, spending 741 weeks on the Billboard 200. But I've always felt that it was surpassed by their other albums. What do you think?
I agree with The Wall being over rated, though I still absolutely adore it.
For the hell of it: 4. Dark Side Of The Moon 5. Atom Heart Mother 6. Saucerful Of Secrets 7. Piper At The Gates Of Dawn 8. The Wall 9. Obscured By Clouds 10. More
I consistently come to the realization that nothing moves my soul quite like Pink Floyd. Absolutely my favorite band of all time.
I love Piper (hell I have a cat named Lucifer Sam) but I feel like it's become overrated over the years. The ones I feel are really underrated are Obscured by Clouds and More. I had the same top 3 as Zapp though.
It's 70s prog, it's all pretty much take it or leave it. I think Animals works, but as a fan of that period for ghe genre, it's neither melodic enough (see WYWH) nor adventurous enough (see Meddle), while also kind of being ugly sounding, production wise. But, I'm a critical bastard when it comes to things I really like, so...
Very fair good sir. I've always been a fan of the grime that seems to coat the production. To me it mirrors the subject matter and the style of the songs.
"The Wall", overrated though it may be, will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the first Pink Floyd album I ever listened to cover to cover, when I was 14 years old. I was having a really shitty day at school and one of my teachers tried to comfort me by saying "you know, it's like Pink Floyd sang - 'all in all, it's [sic] just another brick in the wall', and someday, none of this will matter and will just be another brick in the wall of your life". Well, when I got home, I went into my older brother's room and found his copy of "The Wall", put it on, and fell in love with it. It really spoke to me at that point in my life. I went to elementary school in Australia, and the school system over there shares a lot of similarities with the British school system they were singing about; teachers would berate and insult their students constantly, bullying was rampant, and you were broken down to become devoid of any personality or soul so you could be another cog in the machine.
However, now days, I'd say it's between Meddle and Piper at the Gates of Dawn.
Here's mine: 1. Wish You Were Here 2. Meddle 3. Animals 4. Dark Side of the Moon 5. The Wall 6. Obscured by Clouds 7. A Saucerful of Secrets 8. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn 9. More 10. Atom Heart Mother
I went with DSTOM,Wish You Were Here, and A Momentary Lapse of Reason. Blasphemy I know but I'm not too familiar with their work before DSTOM other than a few songs. "One Of These Days" bein' a huge favorite of mine though!
