This was fun to read. So it's been a couple years, have anyone been to a Flaming Lips show lately? Has the show changed at all?
Since Roo 2010 I've seen them 3 times. I went both nights to the Soft Bulletin shows they did here in Atlanta semi-recently. As an experiment I went the first night spun out of my mind, the second night dead sober. It's not just the NOM NOM WORD!!! Those guys really are incredibly awesome!
Gonna see em again next month playing in Centennial Olympic park.

They are headlining a small festival in St. Louis this august and will definitely be there. I saw the Flaming Lips 3 times in under 12 months last year and saw three different shows. First show was outside on the streets of Columbia, second was the Soft Bulletin in Chicago, and the third was at Kanrocksas. There were all awesome and all differnt

My Roo group and I were at the second night Soft Bulletin show (just wanted to add how amazing the electric Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger set was as well) and have our tickets for the Party in the Park. So far I've only seen their Roo '10 and SB show, but I'd have to agree that they were two very different and equally amazing performances.

Cool! See you in the park! Besides the SB shows I saw them at the Chastain, it was awesome but not really the right venue. Wayne had to come out before the show and explain that he was going to come out in a space bubble and try to walk over them, because there were seats all the way up to the front. He asked everyone if they could maybe squeeze in together in the center.
Love the Lips. Still think the gimmick shtick's wearing thin. Most of their fans don't notice or don't care though cause it's still a crazy-ass spectacle. They have a wealth of solid, early material that they don't consider touching live, yet Wayne will spend 20 minutes every set berating fans to Come On Mutherfukkers. You come on.

We saw Joan Jett open for Billy Idol there a while back. I can't conceive the clusterquack of him rolling out in the ball there lol.

I saw them for the second and a half time last aug (roo 10 doesnt count it was only 15 min from far away)
It was essentially the same show and it was amazing. Best show I saw last year. I think I could probably see that show 2-3 times a year and never get tired of it

It was kind of amusing, he pretty much just did a U-Turn. They then proceeded to throw down an AMAZING show (with the confetti, balloons and yeti dancers on the side of the stage, much to whoreshack's chagrin ;D), the highlight of which IMO was Silver Trembling Hands, he was riding on the back of a gorilla yelling into a megaphone, Embryonic hadn't yet been released. We wern't exactly close to the stage and I still got bonked on the head by a balloon I didn't see coming!

^^^Huh..I don't get why you don't get it! I don't begrudge anyone their musical likes or dislikes. I listen to alot of stuff that frankly surprises me when I meet someone else who likes it. Different strokes for different folks. For the record I find the Eagles and U2 kinda boring.
i've seen the flaming lips 7 times since 2009 and i have seen essentially three different flaming lips shows. one being the cookie cutter embryonic era show, one was them and weezer, and one was an altered embryonic type show. so they change it up, at least a little. i think one problem is their over exposure in the market. they tour almost all the time and many lips fans like myself will see them as many times as possible. if you see a band with a hefty theatrical element multiple times you're bound to see the same type of show.
I kind of over-Flips'd myself between 2009-2010, seeing them a billion times at different festivals. Then I started to watch their set in 2010, thought, "well, I'm over this band," and then walked to get a good spot for LCD.
Now that I haven't seen them in awhile I am just dying for a good ol' fashioned confetti shower.

I want Wayne to keep his hamster ball. I'm still waiting for the opportunity to roll him away to some private remote location where no one can find us! He'll be my captive.

Anybody interested in a inforoo pre-Roo gathering before partying in the park? I heard this place is pretty cool from reliable sources, though I haven't been there yet myself, Young Augustine's: maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1366&bih=572&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=st+augustine+atlanta+bar&fb=1&gl=us&hq=st+augustine+atlanta+bar&cid=0,0,10497389944783228949&ei=3FWGT8y7G9Sk8AHs_-HCCA&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&ved=0CBUQ_BI
Please don't forget to wear some cheap chuck taylor shoes and a couple of OBVIOUS musician tats!

I have to kind of agree with you on this point. Transmissions From The Satellite Heart was an amazing album and yeah yeah yeah everyone knows She Don't Use Jelly but god how I wish they would play Pilot Can at the Queer of God....that's probably my favorite Flip's song evar.

May I recommend Sidebar as a pre-Party in the Park meetup joint? Young Augustine's is fun but it's all the way on the other side of the State campus. Sidebar is on Poplar so it's like a 3 block walk/stumble to get to Centennial after that. Just my two cents though.

OK We've strayed pretty far off topic here I started a new thread in a more appropriate aria for those of us who would like to hang out a bit before the party.
