I see Young and Dylan as complete equals. They both have innumerable great albums and songs. I know many discount Dylan's recent live performances but I have been at several spectacular shows in the last couple years. Asking me to pick between Neil and Bob would be like asking the Pope to pick between The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
I believe he is saying that he doesn't want input from nodepression...and that homo and nodepression are synonymous with one another. Rude and offensive...mods!

Yea I figured, I just hoped there was a better insult in there somewhere.
It's hard to keep my thoughts hetero when discussing these two artists, especially when considering Bob Dylan's rippling abs, or Neil Young's shapely badunkadunk, but the mind tends to wander, doesn't it ohio?

Let's go back to what this thread is really about.
1. Cortez the Killer 2. Pardon My Tears 3. Barstool Blues 4. Danger Bird 5. Don't Cry No Tears 6. Lookin' For Love 7. Drive Back 8. Through My Sails 9. Stupid Girl
1 Union Man 2 Hawks and Doves 3 Lost in Space 4 Captain Kennedy 5 The Old Homestead 6 Stayin' Power 7 Comin' Apart at Every Nail 8 Little Wing 9 Coastline
Anyways, all my friends overwhelmingly said Dylan, but you guys/gals are opposite. Then again I guess if posted this question in a Dylan thread he'd have lots of support.
If you want some entertainment in regards to the eternal debate between Dylan and Young check out the archive on Thrasherswheat. They've had a long standing debate for quite some time. I think sometime around 2007 or 2008 someone posted a link to it on Expectingrain. Then shit really heated up.

1. Powderfinger 2. My, My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue) 3. Sail Away 4. Thrasher 5. Pocahantas 6. Hey, Hey, My, My (Into The Black) 7. Welfare Mothers 8. Sedan Delivery 9. Ride My Llama
I guess this is kinda indicative of which Neil I generally like better. But all songs are definitely 10/10. Rust Never Sleeps is definitely belongs in the top 5. Also I've convinced myself to listen to it again right now by ranking these songs <3

I figured I would rank the 70's albums now. I think it'll be fun ranking the 90's albums later when I'm familiar with them all. 6 perfect albums imo. Not too bad
1. After the Gold Rush 2. Rust Never Sleeps/Live Rust 3. On the Beach 4. Zuma 5. Tonight's the Night 6. Deja Vu 7. Harvest - 4.5/5 8. Comes a Time - 4.8/5 9. 4 Way Street - 4.8/5 10. American Stars 'n Bars - 4.6/5 11. Time Fades Away - 4.5/5
Re: The Dylan v. Young debate...To me, you have to give it to Dylan. Neil may have written some songs that are as good as Dylan's best songs, but to me, if you look at their overall career arcs, Dylan is just much more consistent. Dylan released a few clunkers in the 80's, but Neil has released only a few good albums in the last 20-30 years and a lot of bad ones (in my opinion; don't get me wrong, I still love pre-1980 Neil and some of the post-1980 Neil & CH stuff). In my opinion, all you have to do is look at the fact that albums like Modern Times and Love and Theft are still getting tons of critical acclaim, while Fork in the Road was met with, at best, a very lukewarm reception. Not that the critics' opinions are all that matters, but I think that says a lot. Dylan is STILL consistently releasing great stuff; Neil might be releasing some good music every now and then, but it's much more sporadic.
Plus, ultimately, I think Dylan has more albums that stand out as undeniable classics than Neil. Again, this is just my opinion. The fact that The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan and Desire are so different from one another and yet equally classic says a lot about Dylan's legacy, I think.

I think that with all of the other 70's records I will grow to love them a little bit more with more listens. Except Harvest of course because A Man Needs A Maid ruins the possibility of 5/5. I still find that song ridiculous. I can't get over the chorus.

These are the ones that I have heard that are pretty awesome. How many classics has Dylan released since 90?
^^Is that a serious question? "Love and Theft," "Time Out of Mind," and "Modern Times" all got rave reviews.
The majority of those Neil albums listed have received mostly mediocre to negative reviews. The worth of reviews and reviewers is certainly debatable, but they do show that I'm not the only one who thinks what I think.
I mean, really, "Fork in the Road?" That album is awful.
Also...
"Well IN MY OPINION your crazy"
In your opinion, my crazy what? My crazy WHAT, sir?

So there weren't a few stinkers in Dylan's catalog?
1980 Saved 1981 Shot of Love 1983 Infidels 1984 Real Live 1985 Empire Burlesque 1986 Knocked Out Loaded 1988 Down in the Groove 1989 Oh Mercy 1990 Under the Red Sky 1992 Good as I Been to You 1993 World Gone Wrong 1997 Time Out of Mind 2001 "Love and Theft" 2006 Modern Times 2009 Together Through Life 2009 Christmas in the Heart
It's not that I don't think some of those are good, but most aren't notabe, and a handful aren't good.
Just for the record, IMO Neil Young>>>>>>>>>>Bob Dylan, all things considered. Actually, I'd only put him behind Leonard Cohen as greatest North American song writer. As an overall musician, no question Neil's better.
