Hey NOD, its actually not going to be that much different than Phish in 10 years.
By the way, Kings has other albums besides Only By The Night, none of which im betting you have given a chance, which are great. Use Somebody....wow, of course you pick the worst Kings song to make fun of. So immature. Ever listened to Milk? Ragoo? California Waiting? Wasted Time? Genius? I doubt it.
Since when do people judge bands based off of 1 album? I thought we got over that like 20 years ago. Sad day for music in general. Yes they may have made some crummy decisions promo wise, but what band hasnt made mistakes. Get off your high horse

Move Flaming Lips! They are headliners at some other decent festivals anyway
MMJ would be the ideal solution but probably not gonna happen so short notice.
I think a good idea would be to let dave matthews and tim reynolds do an acoustic set. Those shows are usually pretty rare and in a smaller venue so seeing it at roo would be awesome!. Plus it wouldn't be nearly as much work to make this happen as any other band.
Or let Conan do his show on What during this time. I would definitely go .... and won't for KOL

You should have stopped awhile ago. I used to be a KOL fan before I found good music, maybe you should do the same.
I know how to save this one Les Claypool is on the farm Primus is touring next month snatch up a couple of peeps instant supersatisfactory headliner then just find someone to fill the Les slot problem solved who is down for Primus headlining?

Also you calling any KOL song genius is completely laughable. At their best they're just a fun/simple garage rock band. But that's only on songs like Four Kicks, Taper Jean Girl, Trani, and King of the Rodeo.
I will listen Use Somebody for the millionth time before I join any hipster fad 'Cool Kids Club'. If I don't like a band then I won't go see them plain and simple. I won't wage some big campaign against them to try to showcase my own brilliance. I like steak and you like chicken but there is room on the table for both. Bonna-fucking-roo!
People that keep saying that speculating is stupid are rather absurd. You have a headliner at the biggest festival in the country just have their lead singer diagnosed with a condition where he isn't allowed to attempt to sing until the day before the festival and then still not might be alright. You think that Superfly is just sitting on their ass and betting on him getting better? They are, guaranteed, at least contemplating a backup plan.

Yeah I think it's safe to say that they won't just have no one playing the What during KoL's set. My guess is that KoL will play, but if not, they will move someone into their spot, most likely the Flaming Lips. There's some chance they'll make some more moves and add a smaller band. But they won't add a huge act.

i'd feel bad for all the losers coming mainly to see KOL. plus, i've already come to terms with sleeping during that block of time. that being said, cancel KOL, move flips. that would save superfly money AND make the plurality happy.

you also have a festival that has screwed up in almost every way possible this year
I have not heard a specific diagnosis - and I am not prepared to spend a lot of time researching the issue. but, based on the miniscule amount that I do know about the situation, I wonder if it might be something other than an infection. Infections such as strep start to respond after 24 hrs of antibiotics...or one honking bicillin shot in the butt. Add in some decadron to shrink swollen throat tissues until the antibiotics kick in and there's really no reason to sit out several days.
of course, if it's a viral infection, all bets are off. In this case the rest would be not so much only for the voice but for the whole body, to assist the recovery process.
another possibility is something like a vocal cord polyp...hmmm...can cause raspy voice...hmmm, and exacerbated by overuse of the vocal cords.
all mere speculation. to tell the truth, I had warmed up to the idea of a nice nap and/or some serious chill time to recharge for late night.
