Actually, they sold out night one and nearly sold out night two at full capacity. The seating chart for Arcade Fire and MMJ was identical.
I am not going to go back and find it, but an inforooster was there and said the 400's were blocked off as well as part of the balcony's. Also even if they did sell 30k tickets in NYC for a CD release that does not make them headliners. After that show they went on to play 3-5k seat venues the rest of the tour. In Atlanta they could not sell out the bottom half of a ridiculously small amphitheater, and the lawn seating was not even sold.

Below is a list of the venues AF played other than MSG and the capacities of those venues.
01 - Bank of America Pavilion, Boston, MA (5,000) 02 - The Mann Center, Philadelphia, PA (14,000) 06 - Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, MD (16,500) 08 - Lollapalooza, Chicago, IL 09 - Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, TN (2,300) 11 - Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, Atlanta, GA (12,000) 29 - Key Arena, Seattle, WA (17,000) 30 - Memorial Coliseum, Portland, OR (12,000) 02 - Greek Theatre, Berkeley, CA (8,000) 03 - Greek Theatre, Berkeley, CA (8,000) 05 - Henry Miller Library, Big Sur, CA (400) 07 - Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, CA (6,300) 08 - Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, CA (6,300)

Yeah except at several of the amphitheater shows they just sold the pavilions and not the lawns. I know that is what went down in Atlanta, and several others. Like aproo said they are just not too big a band to play a late night which, Like NIN, SCI, Flips, P&F, MMJ etc....... All of those bands are arguably bigger than AF, and none of them headlined.

I'll back you up on this. The only way someone could say Merriweather can hold 16K+ is if you count the lawn, and even that is a liberal estimation. 3-5K for just the amphitheater is accurate.

But they sold lawn tix for the Merriweather show. And there were a ton of people on the lawn, plus the seats inside the pavilion were totally full. I know because I was there.

Fair enough; I've seen a couple shows there but most certainly as not there for AF. And I have no vested interest in this argument, but wanted to provide factual evidence where I could.

I wasn't attacking you, Steve, just pointing out that while you're right about the numbers under the tent, the attendance number for that show was a great deal larger than that since they sold lawn tix. Like you, just trying to provide clarification where I could. Although I am a big AF fan, I don't really have a dog in this fight, either; I'd just be happy if they were there--in any capacity.

Per their Facebook "Arcade Fire as you may have heard are to headline the Rock a Field in Luxembourg Sun 26th June. Tickets available from: www.atelier.lu/raf AND the Lucca Summer Festival in Italy Sat 9th July. Tickets are available from: www.ticketone.it/"
If they are at Bonnaroo it must be one of their last U.S. dates, before going back over to Europe.
I'm as big an AF fan as they come, so I'd want them at Roo this year, but there are strong rumors of them at Pink Pop in the Netherlands, which is June 11-13.

Seemed pretty full to me. Im not sure about selling lawn tix, but there were certainly a lot of people sitting there.

I was at Atlanta. The floor was packed, and the seats looked fairly full, but there was hardly anyone in the lawn.

Again, I would much rather they be at the farm.
I've heard this too. What gives me hope is that Pink Pop has already announced their headliners(Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon) and Arcade Fire don't seem to be playing any festivals they aren't headlining.
If Kings Of Leon can headline then so can Arcade Fire. Plus, if you're Bonnaroo, you want to get these guys like the Black Keys and Arcade Fire now before they get so popular they have too many haters.
