Well, this is a fix. I got home today to find one of the tickets for Bonnaroo gnawed on by my cats - and it was missing a chunk in the barcode area. Right now I'm kind of freaking out, imagining a nightmare scenario where I get there and one of my friends isn't able to get in because a third of the barcode is gone.
What would you suggest? Are the admissions people strict about this? I'm going to print out copies of the confirmation emails for the tickets, and hope that most of the information is still on the ticket.

Who knows? Maybe they'll be scanning this year. Hell they put RFID chips in the VIP wristbands. You never know what they'll do this year. I'd give musictoday a call to make sure.

Yes, VIP wristbands do have RFID chips in the bracelets as we got them in the package but it is anyone's guess right now as to what exactly the RFID will be used for and whether or not everyone will get an RFID wristband.

I am sure we will all have them, it will stop fakes and make it a lot easier to get inside centeroo.

I would tend to agree that it is likely that if they are rolling out the infrastructure they would also use them for everyone but since I don't have any inside information I don't like to speculate too much. I do know that RFID wristbands were used at Coachella this year so it would make sense if Bonnaroo were using a similar system this year.

One of my friends that I'm attending roo with just moved at the end of May. He was burning post-moving junk in the bonfire that was old or didn't need. Without thinking he accidentally gives a box of papers, to be burned, that had his FedEx envelope with tickets was inside. Must have had an slight heart attack once he realized what he had done and left them in a doomed box. Then bolted outside and save the tickets. Luckily the box was placed on the fire whole and was just barely burnt, and FedEx envelope was unharmed. Needless to say his tickets are in a safer place now.

Actually, if theyre just rolling it out it makes MUCH more sense to test it on the VIP tickets first - since it's a smaller group and there s less chance of things going horribly awry.

I once was cleaning out my truck and I had two un-cashed checks in one hand and some trash in the other. I was burning the trash in a small fire in my yard. A while later, I remembered the checks and searched everywhere before checking the ash pile. I found fragments of both checks there. I contacted one of the people who had given me a check, but never got around to the other, and never actually got either replaced. They were for a little over $100 total, I think.

I finally got my ticket in the mail today from Clean Vibes. Apparently, we are the next step in the experiment because the package also contains a hypodermic syringe and instructions on how to self-inject the RFID chip inside, as well as a self-tattooing kit with a template for a "666" tattoo.

I don't know what their plan is and I would normally agree with you but in this case nothing realy bad would happen if the computerized part of the system fails as you then just fall back to checking wristbands visualy the same as every other year at Bonnaroo. Also if they are using the same system Coachella used this year, and the bands appear to be the same, the system has already proven itself in a festival setting.
Can anyone tell me what the point is for the RFID chips?
The biggest advantage is that it makes it harder to get in with counterfit wristbands as they would not have the rfid chip in them. A secondary, but important, use for them is for tracking the movement of people as they would be able to see patterns as to when people are coming into the site or going through anywhere where there are scanners.
