A-Roid gets his punishment I think it means the Yankees will recoup ~$35 mil once his appeal is denied. My guess is that they pursue voiding the remainder of his contract on some type of legal mumbo-jumbo.
Well, what's his defense going to be against it? That he was never caught? Wouldn't admitting to using during his MVP-years kind of negate that claim?
The defense is that the collective bargaining agreement stipulates the first suspension will be 50 games, not 1.5 seasons. I know he's arguing that he shouldn't be suspended at all, but that is just posturing. I think the length of the suspension is really the crux of the dispute. He's just trying to save money because he doesn't get paid while suspended....and at $20 million+ per year, its worth disputing.
I understand why A-Rod is fighting the suspension, I just don't think he's going to win. I don't think they are bluffing that they have exponentially more evidence on A-Rod than Braun & the other Biogenesis guys. He can have his buddies call out the allegations as flimsy all he wants, they wouldn't be going after him like this if they didn't have him dead in the water.
Probably true. Its hard to discuss without having a real knowledge of the CBA. You would think that he can't get more than 50 games since that is what common understanding is with respect to first suspensions. I don't know of any cases where someone's first suspension under this CBA was for more than 50 games. (Braun made a plea agreement for 65 games, so I think that might be different).
A-Rod did fail a random drug test in 2003, though. Why are people ignoring this? I assume because it came before the current CBA and there were no penalties for PEDs?
A-Rod juiced, he tested positive in the past, he admitted to it only after being named in the Mitchell Report (after years of denials) and then went back to the well to juice. He's a cheater and doesn't deserve to make the money he's owed since it was all based on a lie.

I'm not disputing any of that. And I'm not an ARod sympathizer. I just don't see any way a 211 game suspension holds up, when he is, essentially, a first time offender. What we all know as true, that he has been a cheater for over a decade, may not matter. The arbitrator's bring a certain degree of legality to the situation and I don't know what (within the context of Biogenesis) would constitute a suspension of more than triple that of any other player that was involved. Its hard to have a real discussion on this, though, because we know zero facts of this case other than one man pointing out guys.

SF Giants beat the Red Sox last night with a walk-off walk. It's not the most majestic way to end a game (especially when the pitch looked to be a strike). But in a season with so little to celebrate, we'll take it.
I should add that the G-men were 0 for 10 with RISP. That percentage is slightly better than their season average.
John Lackey's return to better days this season is a nice surprise. I wish Boston scored some runs last night - help out that 8 IP three hits effort he threw last night.

“The game has a cleanness. If you do a good job, the numbers say so. You don’t have to ask anyone or play politics. You don’t have to wait for reviews.” —Sandy Koufax
Sandy has such a great perspective on the game of baseball, love when he stops by Mets' spring training every year and drops heaps of knowledge everywhere.
Baseball is an individual sport masquerading as a team sport.
