Hello. My wife and I are really excited to come to roo this year. We've never been. Is the VIP vs GA worth the extra cost to be close. How much closer are you for camping and what are the "viewing" areas.
How will it be for us as non-drug users? What % are?
Lots of folks don't do drugs there. I don't and have a great time every year. It is what you make it really. As for the VIP I've always just done regular at roo. So someone else will have to step in on that. Read around the boards there is a ton of great info here.
VIP is guaranteed close and get lots of room. GA you take your chances, but in 7 Roos I've never been more than 10 minutes or so away and only once ('03) been cramped for space, though last year was a bit tight but not really bad.
I personally can't see paying the extra costs. I guess it depends on whether you have the money to spare and how badly you'd hate being far away (if you get unlucky.) Even if you're in BFE you could move to Tent Only.

The festival is different for each person. i hope you go and enjoy yourself! VIP is nice because it is very close to where all the action is and you have access to showers and A/C bathrooms but to me, the cost is kinda steep...regardless, enjoy the experience on the farm

I've been totally straight for 4 Roos (except for a few Margaritas) and I am sure I have as much of a blast as everyone else. I also remember everything!
As for VIP, I personally can't justify that much money for it - I could go to Puerto Rico for a week for that much (and have). I could afford it if I chose to, I just won't.
The money's never been worth it to me. I'm okay with a bit of a walk -- I'm in Centeroo from noon to 3 or 4 AMish daily anyways.
It should be noted that while there are separate viewing areas (a hill and some bleachers at the main stage and some bleachers at the 2nd biggest stage) , they are not terribly close to the stage. Apparently there is some luxury package you can buy into for a couple of grand apiece that gets you on the side of the stage, though.

VIP is a lot of extra $$$. I've also heard that people who choose VIP (some friends of mine in particular) have a difficult time not doing it each year. If it's your first, go GA. This might give you a better feel of the communal atmosphere at the festival...
Non-drug user? Well, at least you're smart enough not to abuse non-drugs... As a non-user, you'll be completely fine. But, don't hesitate to offer assistance to the stumbling over-indulgent if it looks like they need help and guidance. Don't avoid good karma.
We've always camped among the unwashed hordes (GA). You might feel a little uncomfortable for an hour or so as the neighborhood jostles and adjusts. But, then everything settles and resolves. It's like you've landed on a benevolent planet with 70,000 like-minded explorers. Soon you're out meeting new friends and discovering strange and wonderful things.
riburroo " It's like you've landed on a benevolent planet with 70,000 like-minded explorers. Soon you're out meeting new friends and discovering strange and wonderful things. " Beautiful!! As a first-time roo'er this year, that is exactly what I want/need to hear!! =)
Honestly, the only appeal for VIP are the bathrooms and showers. It breaks down to like $200 a shower and $25 for each bathroom break. I can't justify that spending.
I really don't think that the bathrooms are that bad in recent years. They've improved so much since 2004. They're cleaned twice a day -- I don't know how much more you can expect.
And since taking advice learned here and bringing baby wipes, I probably only average one shower a year and that's really more about cooling off and getting refreshed than actually getting clean.

One shower a year? And you wait until Bonnaroo for it? Yuck.

Yeah, I smell pretty bad. Maybe I should shower when I come home from Roo.... hey, I bet that's what they've been eluding to at work!!!

Well, there's three or four of them and 80,000 people so I could see how you could miss them. When you smell as bad as me, though, they think they smell livestock and seek you out like the comfort of home.
