Alright so all complaining aside, I'm listening to every band on this lineup, and I've found some cool stuff. Dan Deacon has certainly caught my attention. Check out this vid, and watch the whole thing; it's beautiful.
Also read this excerpt from a Wikipedia article about him:
"When playing solo he performs on floor level within the audience, his musical devices being set up on a low table, and surrounded by the crowd. The Bromst tour was with a 14-person ensemble and for most of the dates on that tour Deacon performed on the stage or on a small platform within the audience. His live performances involve constant audience participation, often requiring the attendees to perform physical tasks and games en masse during the songs, like dance circles, human tunnels, stretching, ridiculous countdowns, etc."
Haha yeah his shows are ridiculously awesome. My friend told me that at his show in nashville they did a human tunnel out the door, down the block, and back. sadly i had to miss the show but heard it was awesome. and you should check out his videos of him doing "silence like the wind overtakes me". Its a song he only does live at shows.
*edit- heres a video from the nashville show. this is him without the ensemble but its a good idea of what his shows are like-
His music is pretty good, but really you only go to his live show if you're wanting to a big, sweaty clusterfudge. Kinda like the Flaming Lips, it's cool to experience once, but that's enough for me.
I think bronaroo is talking about Deacon's normal live shows where he plays in the crowd. This will be different. He and his ensemble will be on the stage. This will be an amazing set.

I've seen him with the ensemble and he still does all the clusterfudge audience stuff.

also, I think it would be wonderful if some of the bands that various ensemble members play in got added as cafe acts (Ponytail, Double Dagger, Ecstatic Sunshine, etc)
I always have wanted to catch this guy live. I do remember walking by his set at Langerado and it was the oddest sounds I have ever heard pretty much scared me away but im sure it was amazing thing to see. I am interested in this human tunnel though can someone explain how this is done?

he grabs two people standing near him and they put their arms up, then two people from the crowd run through it and put their arms up, etc. when you run out of people the back of the tunnel runs through and moves to the front

Dude played in my basement 3 years ago. People were crowd surfing despite being in a basement with like 8 ft ceilings and nails sticking down from the ceiling. There were like 150 people crammed literally on top of each other and against him and his setup. Pretty surprised my house didn't collapse/get burned down/sued into oblivion. Pitchfork made him stop because people were getting too unruly and crushing each other to the point of people being pulled out because they couldn't breathe. Bromst was simply one of the best albums put out last year, on top of a crazy live show, the dude is a musical genius. In summary, don't miss this show

One of my favorite shows ever was Dan at the UMBC "Quadmania" a few years back. A free show, in a parking lot, on a spring afternoon. There weren't more than 40 people in attendance, and that intimacy and wide open space lent itself to some very kinetic games and antics.
Sadly, as his crowds grow, these types of diversions have necessarily suffered. So, don't expect too much of this kind of thing at the huge crowd he will surely have at Bonnaroo, but I'm sure he will more than make up for it somehow.
^^Again, looks like a lot of fun but you I can't bring myself to call that music.
the album or the youtube videos?
The youtube videos look fun. Got an album recommendation for me? I tend to base my opinions off of youtube videos because it's live. Anybody can make electronic music in the studio but it's difficult to recreate live.

Definitely recommend Bromst--I don't think he's going to be doing a lot of the weird crowd stuff anyways. The set is going to be much closer to the first clip that was posted
