I really feel like they jumped the shark billing KoL second. Last year the second name on the lineup was arguably the biggest draw to the festival. This year it's hard to say that that the first name is even as big of a draw as the fourth or fifth on last years lineup

The kings of leon website says they're playing friday. they are most likely going to headline friday. if you don't like it, go stick your head in the ground while they're playing. believe it or not, they have a pretty large fan base. they have just won 3 grammys and are probably the biggest band of 2009. whether you like them or not, thats the truth. Kings of Leon will definitely be bringing in ticket sales. They deserve a headlining spot. to top it all off they're TN natives...

If we had a big name drop out late like we think The Who did, then I'll betcha a dollar that Superfly is scrambling to cover right now. And that means going after more than one big draw. Maybe someone we've seen before. I'd be pretty happy with any of these: Radiohead, Tool, Tom Petty, Muse, Motorhead, The Stones, Neil Young, Roger Waters.
6/18: Phish in Hartford 6/25: Phish in Camden 7/2-7/4: Nateva 7/17: God Street Wine at Irving Plaza 7/23-7/25: String Cheese at Red Rocks!! 8/17-8/18: Phish at Jones Beach 9/3: Rush at PNC
This Bonnaroo lineup is in dire need of some Rush.
Has Bonnaroo ever added a headliner during the second or third round of additions?
They also have never released the lineup like they did this year.
Also, there are only 80+ bands now and there were 148 last year. I'd say we have a ways to go.
*Hoping for a Neil Young or Roger Waters add*
Those sound more likely than anyone else right now. If Neil was added late (or is being added), they might have already had their headliners set and possibly weren't ready to release his name yet.

This conversation is largely irrelevant anyway since Stevie Wonder is easily the biggest name on the bill. Why else would he be announced last as "The Legendary Stevie Wonder?" He has a 14-piece band of some of the best musicians you'll ever see and anyone playing at this festival would break their necks for a chance at sitting in with him. It's even arguable that he's the biggest artist Bonnaroo has ever had in terms of influence.
The dude has 30 top ten hits and 22 Grammys. 22! Jay-Z, KOL, and DMB will never win that many combined.
Chris Rock said it best: "Can we help Stevie get a peek? The man wrote Songs in the Key of Life, Talking Book, Innervisions. Can we get this brother a peek?"

For that matter, why would KOL get booked above Weezer?
Because KOL is way bigger than Weezer at this point. Weezer spent their summer as an opening band while KOL was selling out arenas.
Really? Then what the fuck was I doing that night that I thought I saw Weezer Headline at Madison Square Garden? I could swear that they went on last that night.

Bob Dylan played Bonnaroo, your argument is invalid.
I don't know. Appearing on American Bandstand as a black 13 year old solo artist in 1963 when there was still a lot of segregation is pretty influential. I'd say the argument is quite valid.

Off topic: Stevie Wonder > Bob Dylan by a long shot.
On topic: Ihave no freaking clue. I mean, I guess that they are popular now. I don't listen to the radio so Ihaven't heard any of their new stuff. I heard of them when I went to 04 Roo, but they didn't impress me back then. I have yet to see or read an interview where they talked about anything of substance. All they talk about is how drunk they were, are, or will be. Their set will supply with some time to rest and get a good spot for a late night.

probably because they would have thrown a tantrum if not billed this way. come on you guys, look at these self-important f.ucksticks
No phucking kidding!!
Gawddamn just looking at them pisses me off... Seriously. I just want to punch each one of them in the face. Especially that phucker on the far left...

Is that harsh?
;D
far left phucker is definitely asking for it. looking at them enrages me, and hearing them is even worse, but i digress. can we eliminate grammys as any sort of indication on quality. if grammys meant anything in this day and age taylor f.ucking swift would be headlining.

I hope whoever sees them has a good time.
In what universe?
My universe obviously. Dylan may have influenced more people, but Stevie can still perform. Have you seen/heard Dylan lately? I suppose he is still getting critical acclaim, but I can't stand his most recent albums.
