I'm not a big fan of Nas, but in '08 on the Rock The Bells tour he was better than the other headliners, A Tribe Called Quest and Mos Def, which I love, but didn't give great live performances. I think he'll surprise people.
"Hip Hop Is Dead" again boasted several really amazing songs ("Black Republicans," "Hustlers," the dirty version of the title song), and plenty of garbage.
Surprised you left Carry on Tradition off that list of good Hip Hop is Dead songs. I thought that was one of Nas' strongest tracks in years.
6/18: Phish in Hartford 6/25: Phish in Camden 7/2-7/4: Nateva 7/17: God Street Wine at Irving Plaza 7/23-7/25: String Cheese at Red Rocks!! 8/17-8/18: Phish at Jones Beach 9/3: Rush at PNC
This Bonnaroo lineup is in dire need of some Rush.
He's like you made an über troll by taking the worst parts of me (the utter disregard for other people's opinions), Phi (cluttering up threads with memes and adding nothing to a discussion) and Jess (an apparent belief that everyone else is the problem and/or arrogance without self awareness).
saw them at rothbury last year, it was a good show but they only did like 4 songs together, the other part of the show was either just nas or just marley
Probably because at that time, they only had four songs complete with each other. their album has been getting delay after delay. I'm sure it will be more of their collaborations this time. I am, however, super-stoked to hear they did solo stuff, as I was hoping to get this from Nas
I love the two songs they did together on the MJ mixtape that Nas released. If you haven't heard them, I would check it out, especially if you are on the fence about them on the same stage together.
Good to hear that they will both be throwing in solo stuff as well during the concert, I am a big fan of both of their music. I am honestly more excited about this then Jay-Z, as it looks like quite a few people in here are as well.
And I'm so glad AC/Superfly booked an act that hit a bunch of festivals LAST YEAR. This and the Dead Weather would have been great in 2009, but it seems tired now.
The Dead Weather have a new album coming in April and just announced tour dates. I don't see how they are worse in 2010 than in 2009.
Who cares if Nas/Marley hit up festivals last year? Should they stop booking legends like Jeff Beck and Kris Kristofferson since they were most popular in the 70's?
Damian Marley and Nas will be on Leno (as the actual Tonight Show program, not a filtered obscenity) tonight. I know this board is anti-Leno, but just mute it until these guys come on.
Also, their album came out yesterday. Anyone heard it?

Very good album. I love Nas...it's a cool project. Not mind blowing but a good quality album...it should be a great set with them doing some songs off of this and each doing some solo stuff. I heard great things about their show from Rock the Bells last year...I went in DC/Baltimore but D Marley had to cancel day of so we just got a solo Nas set...I have seen Nas twice live and is the best lyricist I have ever seen live. (Probably on album too though so it makes sense haha!)

I saw them at Rock the Bells '09 in T-Dot. They were great. Would do a few songs togehter, then Nas does some solo, then they do a few together again, then Marley Solo, Then together again. It was pretty great
They do an AMAZING collaboration on One Love which blew my mind.

I bought the album as a lark. Best hip hop album I've purchased in a long time, definitely this year, probably last year as well, and one of the best overall albums I've purchased in some time. It's outstanding and is going to create a conflict in my Roo schedule.
1. Ingrid Michaelson 2. John Prine 3. Tinariwen 4. Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers and Tenacious D 5. Jay-z 6. Medeski, Martin, and Wood 7. Dan Deacon 8. 9. 10. Manchester Orchestra D. Z. Gwar

really hoping for a K'naan add, and this adds more to my thoughts of it possibly happening.
hes going some shows with Wale this spring, and hes featured on one of Wale's song. Now hes featured on two songs by Nas and Marley.
I wish it would happen too, but I think it is highly unlikely. His website doesn't list any shows until August, but Wavin' Flag is the official theme song for the world cup, which starts that weekend. I bet he'll be in South Africa for the world cup.
Fingers crossed though, I've become deeply obsessed with his music. Troubadour and Dusty Foot Philosopher are destined to be classic albums, and not just within the hip-hop genre.

He will be in South Africa for certain. There was an article in the Globe and Mail about it the other day, I just can't find the link right now.

That's what I thought. Bummer, was hoping for some K'naan.
Has anyone seen the remix tape that K'naan did with J.Period? I found it today online. It is a remix tribute album featuring samples and songs from Bob Marley, Bob Dylan(!), and Fela Kuti. Best part is that it is offered as a free download!!! A gift from K'naan.

I saw Nas and Marley last year at rock the bells too- as far as the set goes expect a little solo of each, and then they do the distant relatives material together. As someone else had stated their performance of "One Love" is AWESOME. Also be sure to keep an eye on Damien's 'flag man'. 100% energy

Yeah D Marley had to cancel day of when I saw them at RTB last year so I got Nas solo...who I have seen solo twice...I would like a mix I am just hoping they don't do solely the Distant Relatives CD. While I like it I want to hear some "Hip Hop is Dead" etc...

His name is Judah if it's the same guy that's with him at Marley Fest in Miami. I've been the last 11 years and met him a few years back.
To many of you are forgetting about Damian Marley with all this Nas vs Jay-z talk. I've seen him almost 2 dozen times and have never been disappointed all I can say is the more energy in the crowd the better the show.
The new album is great I love the sample or whatever you call it with Dennis Brown(If Bob was King of Jamaica then Dennis was Prince) with their version "The Land Of Promise" of his track "The Promise Land".
From his first album Damian has evolved his music each step of the way and continues to impress. You should be in for a good show too bad it starts at 4pm Friday. That most likely means that Jay-z will not be on stage with them and I don't expect them to be there on Saturday night. Personally I was hoping to see Damian on stage with Stevie Wonder too bad. Maybe Stevie and Jay-z together their shows are back to back.
