Oh my gosh...me and the large majority of the world don't listen to Michael Jackson. It's crazy, isn't it? That an artist who can sell more albums than anyone else in history can not be listened to by the majority of people who are living!?! It's as if people have diverse musical tastes or that some of us don't like albums filled with cheesy pop ballads about children unifying the world sung by a guy who was probably a child molester. Hoo ray for diversity!
Do I think Beat It, Don't Stop Till You Get Enough and Billie Jean are good songs? Yes. Do I think Hall & Oates wrote some good songs? Yes. But the majority of the songs those acts wrote, I do not like.
Look. I'm not going to hate on your taste if you sincerely like Chromeo and sincerely like Hall & Oates. All I know is that I smell a whole lot of hipster bullhonkey brah with this act. Let me explain it to you from a place of my own fandom.
I've been to a couple Daniel Johnston shows. I love his music. His sets are pretty interesting (although I wish he played the damn piano instead of insisting on playing guitar). But I don't think I'm going to go to another Daniel Johnston show because the "bullshit hipster guy there to gawk at the crazy guy" crowd is waaaaaay too high.
So yeah, I could lie to myself about how I feel about Chromeo w/Daryl Hall or Daryl Hall w/Chromeo and smirk to myself in the back of the tent or I could go somewhere I actually like the music. Which if I'm at Bonnaroo is what I'll end up doing.
Okay, I'll take a crack at this.
First, Michael Jackson hardly wrote albums full of "cheesy pop ballads". That's just ignorant. No one is going to deny that "Heal The World" isn't cheesy. But taking that an extrapolating it over his entire catalog is idiotic. Second, this bit about him being a child molester? I mean, that's perfectly fine for you to not listen to his music for that reason, but ignoring everything he did from 1965 through then is just being stupid. Moreover, most of the world DOES listen to him. He died and the friggin Internet shut down. Literally.
Second, if you think my liking Hall & Oates is "hipster bullhonkey brah" then I don't know what to tell you. I like good music, regardless of genre.
So yeah, I think you're being pretty silly. I think Superfly booked Chromeo w/ Daryl Hall because they're good music, not for the "hipster bullhonkey brah". If anyone would do that, it's Coachella or Pitchfork (zing!)
I'm not really. I just suspect the resurgence in Hall & Oates love has more to do with ironic hipster mustache fads and cheesy music videos on youtube than genuine love.
Recent popularity of Hall & Oates is obviously because of livefromdarylshouse.com. And that is also where they got the Chromeo & Daryl Hall combo. You should check out some of the episodes...
I dislike most of the music from the '80s and never listened to H&O but once I saw the LFDH vids, I am going to make sure I see them on the farm this year.

Ok...my two cents...
This set should be fun, entertaining and retro with tons of potential. Glad to see it happening....To the guy who said a majority of people living do not listen to Micheal Jackson, that may be one the single, most absurd things I have ever heard....

The the bassist and music director for Hall and Oates and Live At Daryl's T-Bone Wolk passed away on March 1st. I am not sure if this would effect the show, I know he was a big part of the band. This guy was a pretty amazing bassist. Really hate this for the band.

OK, when I saw a later post in this thread referring to the loss of T-Bone, the only T-Bone I was familiar with was T-Bone Burnett and I was really sad, because he is a great musician and producer and put on one of my favorite sets in '07 ? I think at Roo. I was relieved to find out it wasn't him. But I'm sad for the friends and family of Mr. Wolk, even though I don't know anything about him, at this point.

i have actually seen hall and oates live at a yamaha (or possibly kawasaki) convention in nashville, tn about 10 or 11 year ago. i went with my parents. i have to say, even though i was barely a teenager and knew nothing of music and was trying to look cool for the all the ladies, i thought they were badass. i have always liked hall and oates since. i dont own an album, nor have a purchased an itunes song, but i will always have their back.
