I'm leaning pretty strongly toward Tinariwen, based on the first line of the Wikipedia entry: Tinariwen (Tamashek: "The deserts", plural of "ténéré" meaning "desert") is a band of Tuareg musicians from the Sahara Desert region of northern Mali.
The band's name means desert! Sweet! This is a band I have wanted to see for a while. They'll probably never come to Houston, so I'll be pretty pleased if I'm right about this.

Where is LawnGnome? I am going to beat him with a spatula
That's what I said. I thought this was a lock. Even though nothing can be confirmed, seems like a lot of effort still going on....Was something hinted at, that Cake ISN'T this answer?

I believe after Cake (and others) were guessed, djjd posted somewhere that someone was VERY close, which to me implied that our guesses were wrong but close.

Piebald? Pie is close to cake.
They're playing reunion shows this year. From their myspace:
"Hello friends of Piebald, word on the street is that we are reuniting...and, while that is not quite true, we are getting together to play a show (or maybe 2) this year to celebrate the rerelease of our out-of-print catalog. "Piebald: First Ten Years" is going to be a 3 volume set of releases with 2 discs apiece that will be released on Rise Records. It will contain our first three albums, all our ep's, bsides and live gems. Volume I will be released in mid April, Volume II in mid May, and volume III in mid June. We will be playing "we are the only friends we have" from start to finish at the Bamboozle fest on may 2nd. We hope that you can come celebrate with us!!

I think you are right. Dessert is not a perfect ending to a misspelled meal, desert is. This is the clearest of the desert-themed guesses. Nice job! (probably

I'm not getting how dessert is a perfect end to a misspelled meal, isn't dessert a perfect end to a properly spelled meal? I would think desert a perfect end to a misspelled meal.
The fork thing is pretty convincing, but he said he only just now got around to reading the guesses, whereas he couldn't possibly have missed cake before. I'm sticking with Tinariwen, if only out of wishful thinking. Not that I don't like cake, but I'm more likely to see them outside Roo...

^^^This may have already been said, I don't really care, but Camera Obscura (who are playing Coachella) are not local to the US, being as they are from Scotland. They are also not too well known, that is, somewhat obscure.
