The ending is a little weak in my opinion, but the rest of the book is really good.
Personally, I think endings are King's biggest flaw. I read The Stand a few weeks before Roo this year (and right about the time the Swine Flu panic was starting, kinda creepy), and I was incredibly disappointed with the way it ended. So I am prepared for this one to end similarly.
Despite that, I still find that he's one of the best storytellers out there; I appreciate his attention to the little details (that may not matter to other people) and to character depth. Bare bones style of writing can be good in some plots, but when there's a very human story there, I feel the more details we get, the better.
The setting, pace and general feel reminds me of Needful Things. Many of the characters are recognizable from other novels. Still a fairly good read so far (200 pages)
Quick question for those of you more hip to TV shows than I am:
Later in the book, King makes mention of Andrea sometimes enjoying popcorn while watching the TV show "The Hunted Ones", in which he claims is a great sequel (or something) to LOST. This show does not actually exist, correct? If it does, my LOST-obsessed self must track it down immediately.
^ I say go for it....as long as you do not bend the spine, wrinkle the pages or spill anything on it. haha
I'm with Bishop. this one looks pretty good but I haven't read King in forever. I have a copy of Lisey's Story that has been on my TBR since it came out in paperback and I still haven't cracked it open. I'm ready to read Edward Rutherfurd's epic New York but I think I'm going to start with London since it is older. I don't think either are quite as long as The Dome but it is pretty close.

Finally broke down and bought it. I was going to wait and get it for Christmas, but I had to go get my car tuned up this weekend, and I needed something to read while I waited. I'm just shy of 200 pages in.

Have not read King in a while either. Weak is correct. Finished it. Long, but good. Just ignore the dumb ass ending and you will be fine.

I also felt the ending was weak but, Swamp Witch, as you know, I think that about a lot of his books Still, I definitely think it was worth a read, brought up some interesting ideas.
I have currently moved on to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
I too thought the ending was a bit weak but not that bad. I like SK's unorthodox ideas about aliens like just kids playing around or not too bright technicians (Tommyknockers). I keep waiting for a connection between the "alien" books which all take place in this general area.
I thought the book was good but a bit too much like Needful Things in its characters, pacing and feel. My recommendation would be to read it but check it out of the library or wait until the price drop/sale bin which inevitably happens with King books these days.
