Saw this in Boston last night. Unbelievable. It's awesome. Jimmy Page is a god. Jack White is a genius. Alot of insite intotheir influences and how they developed thier sounds. a MUST for guitar players.
I'm probably heading in to DC to see this in the next week. Is there any history incorporated in to the film (Les Paul, etc.)?
^the film focuses on the 3 stars (obviously) and delves into there influences. there is a bit on the development of the electric guitar.
the history is told more through the eyes of the stars, jack white talking about son house and other old blues players. there is a killer scene (maybe my favorie first time through) of jimmy page putting on his vinyl of link wray's rumble, breaking it down, and playing air guitar to it. spine-tingling.
I really really really really really really really really want to see this.
really.
Then you really really need to get off your butt and go. It opens at the Belcourt Theatre 9-25-09. Would it not be cool if Jack showed up? I can dream.
Strum, I would see when it starts near you, but I don't know where the bus is?

I'm actually located in Roanoke, VA. I don't see anywhere nearby that I can see this flick based on my halfassed search. I suppose I'll find a way to see it regardless

The way I saw this film described--by the director--is that it's really about the development of an artist. It's an investigation into the driving creative forces, the innovation, and the work that turns a person into an artist. To illustrate this idea, he decided to use rock guitarists but it really could have been about any kind of artist working in any medium.
He's also made clear it's not a typical rockumentary in that it's not sensationalistic, dealing with sex and drugs and wild times. As genuinely as possible it's about the art, the music.
When I read all that, it turned this film from a mild curiosity into an absolute must-see. The rave reviews have helped as well.
