I loved hearing his voice, he really sounds as good or better than he did back in the Talking Heads days. You can't mistake him for anyone else. I would have loved to hear Psycho Killer or Naive Melody but I'll take Life During Wartime and Heaven as replacements.
What a great show, one of my favorite Bonnaroo sets ever.
Mr. Byrne was my favorite of the weekend without a doubt! Only things that could have made it better would have been changin' up his tour setlist fer the 'Roo (some "Psycho Killer," or if he had played "Naive Melody" from TH, or maybe more solo stuff like "Lazy") and the fact that a great chance fer a collaboration with Al Green did not happen. Regardless it was amazing finally seeing my idol live.
This tour is just Brian Eno stuff, so not too surprised we didn't hear any of that.
I know he's been doing the Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno Tour, but I was just hoping that since it was Bonnaroo he might have had a surprise or two fer us.
David Byrne is my idol. I dressed up as him from Stop Making Sense with the huge suit coat this past Halloween. That said, I missed almost his entire show because my friend's girlfriend was feeling sick and we went back to camp (far away) and then came back in and my friend had to catch some Beastie Boys. By the time we actually got to the Which stage, his set was ending. Then, for some reason, we went back to camp again making me miss the beginning of Phish, I could hear Divided Sky from my campsite. I almost cried. I will NEVER forgive myself.

Hey dan nice to meet you at the brunch. Yeah unfortunately it seems its not all that often that someone brings a little something extra for us at the 'roo, I've noticed. Sometimes...but more often than not the standard set that a band has been doing all tour just gets played.
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

^^I've noticed on this board that most people expect the acts "to bring out something special for roo". Why? To them, it's just another set. Sure they are playing to more people, some of who are not fans, but it's really just another show. Personally, I'm glad i saw the Beasties. Glad you guys had fun at Byrne. I've been waiting to see the Beasties since 1986. They never come very close to where I live.

Hmmm... I disagree. For the performers, Bonnaroo is a great opportunity to win over new fans who might not otherwise have paid to see that band perform on their own. Also, landing a gig at Bonnaroo is a bigger deal than performing at a club or concert hall in any given city, because Bonnaroo happens only once a year and it attracts fans from all across the country. It brings a lot more exposure to the band or artist than an ordinary concert does.
Plus, the audience at any given show is usually quite larger than a normal gig, due to the fact that Bonnaroo usually attracts 70 - 80 thousand patrons, whereas even a large stadium performance might only be able to hold 30 thousand fans. Finally, the sheer amount of bands on the lineup lends itself to lots of interesting potential collaborations, so you're more likely to see an unusual sit-in than you would at an ordinary gig.

Sit-ins are one thing, but loads of people here thought Phish would play until sun up on Friday. I didn't think that would happen. I was actually surprised by them not taking a set break. Phish's sets were no different than a normal show besides Bruce sitting in, which was epic. (That's the only time I've used that word and it will be the last)
My comment was referring to Dan'roo's statement above about how he hoped that we would get something special. Byrne didn't really change his set list for Roo. Most people probably didn't. I saw a few cool collaborations that wouldn't have happened elsewhere, but only because they happened to be at a festival.
I do expect to hear good music at roo but I try not to expect anything out of the ordinaty because it only leads to disappointment.
