LOVED the water stations, and didn't have too much trouble with lines as I carried around 2 or 3 emptys all the time for refilling. I feel like this probably did go a long way towards reducing some of the plastic waste.

Definitely dug on the stations. The sulfur in the troughs was too much for me though. I initially filled up there, took about two gulps and decided it was too much. I was burping up that foul egg business throughout the day. It also permeated my metal water bottle so we had to buy dish soap to wash them out, still had a funky smell. No good
over by camp pussy galore... the water was disastrous. smelled like rotten eggs exactly. a few of us rinsed off over there and all ended up with scalp infections that looked awful. but all we had to do is wash it off in the clean water stations. however it made all of us sick. Other than that all the other water stations had water that was cold and tasted great. Also during the hottest parts of the day the water stations in Centeroo had an hour wait all the way around. and some people were fainting of passing out from dehydration going without water for over an hour. and when you enter you have to dump any water you brought with you. they should have more fountains for sure
i never got near one of those things the "sulfer" water was just fine for me but i really did wish there was more access to water around the campgrounds. we brought alot of water for two people but we got stuck in line for around 10 hours and drank about three gallons we didnt account for on thursday. the only real problem i had with water though was the stations randomly being off several times.

Wow! We had a HORRIBLE time getting water in Centeroo - it was really bad. And we had 2 small(ish) kiddos w/ us. They made us pour out the kids' water at the gate ("some people sneak drugs in on their kids" - really? in their water bottles they're drinking out of that are filled w/ water? yeah, right) & we couldn't get water from the stations from Friday on. My husband waited in line 30 minutes at one point for our kids, only to give up.
We filled our bottles from anywhere we could get water (trough sinks, water hose at Troo Music Lounge, etc.). Normally I'm super picky on water, but there wasn't any water there I wouldn't drink.
We are very eco-conscious, but next year we will be bringing the gallon water jugs in sealed. It was dangerous to have to wait over 45 minutes for water (when my husband was in line he heard people saying they had been waiting that long or more).

I used the water stations when I would be at Roo (didn't go this year).....but any time the wait looked like it was longer then 10 minutes ya know what I did?......I went and bought a water for 2.50.....and it was nice and cold.
They give you the water stations, the sinks/troughs, and the option to buy water. They covered their own donkeys. It's not a health hazard that people have to wait 45 minutes to get water at the filtered stations because you have the option of buying a water bottle and not waiting at all if you want. It's a choice not to pay for the water. It's also a choice to wait in line for that long. Personally I'd rather pay a few bucks for an ice-cold water instead of waiting in the heat 25 minutes for water that will probably be half gone by the time I get to my next destination.

Agreed! It's great they offer free water - they don't have to (I would guess anyway). We would just go to Kidz Jam for the kiddos when we were out & the lines were too long. So thank goodness for Kidz Jam - without them it would have been bad. Even not waiting til you're out of water, it's still a 45 minute wait. And w/ the amount of water this family cleared (at least 7 gallons just in drinking), buying little bottles would have depleted the kids' college funds

I'm just saying, if you wait until you're all out of water, you're forced to wait the 45 minutes because you need[/b] water. But if you wait until you're half out you have the option to wait until the lines have calmed down.
There's no excuse for waiting that long for water, when there's so many other options to still get free water, but a shorter line. Like the throughs, or a filtered water station in a less high traffic area.
I filled up water frequently and never waited very long. Longest I waited in Centeroo was 10 minutes. I bought water a couple of times too, but only because i didn't feel like walking to a water station.

10 min wait at the shroom shaped filtered stations!? or the sulfur water troughs?
I was able to fill up ONCE at the filtered stations, and even then filling a camelbak for 5min, not even getting it half full, with 50 people waiting furiously is just not right. Yeah they give the option of stinky water and bottled, but the farm is a money making machine and is in it for the long run. I think they need at least 1 more filtered station with a steady flow!
we brought 64 bottles of water with us. we took 5-6 each in with us each day but they quickly ran out. we don't get water from the wash off stations, because you're not supposed to. i'm glad those of you that drank it were fine, but stop acting like people are stupid for not drinking it. the lines at the filtered water stations were indeed awful. 1 hr. wait is not an exaggeration at all. especially when the water was coming out a drop at a time and it took a person 5 min. to fill up their bottle. i'm glad some of you are apparently very lucky and everything went great for you. but it's kind of annoying to see you keep saying nothing was a problem and everything was fine, just because that was the case for you.

Would one more filtered water station help ease some of the crowds, sure, but three is still plenty.

Yes I agree we are very lucky to have free water systems all over. But your point about the rationing water at low traffic times is a little off. I tried filling a couple times where it seemed there were under 20 people at the whole station and still waited 20+ min to realize the faucets were dripping out water. I watched a guy with a regular sized ozarka bottle fill it for literally 5 min! I then stepped up with my camelbak and felt like a big asshole and quit filling after 5 min. If this can be addressed, everything is all gravvy by me!
i did not care what it smelled like or tasted, as long as it was water too hot to complain, if anything they needed more water mushrooms, my wife had a lemon in our camelback

The wash stations in Pod 1 were pretty terrible (smelled like sulfur and a little off color) but I had no problems with the water stations inside centeroo. I did wait for 20+ minutes for water on Friday but compensated by bringing in plenty on Sat and Sun. I would like to see another water station put up, which would have helped when pressure went low. All in all they provide drinkable water free of charge..cant rly ask for more than that.

I was lucky, I guess. I only did the hour-wait thing once, between getting my Conan ticket and actually going into Conan on Friday. I got so paranoid seeing that initial line that I kept about six full bottles on me the entire rest of the weekend. I never quite needed them all, but I wanted to be sure. I bet it did wonders for my back.
The other thing I did was drink free Odwalla and Vitamin Water like crazy when either was available. I even filled up an empty bottle with Vitamin Water by taking multiple samples once. That was nice.

Yep, they were crowded at times. Not sure why they had the water pressure problems. If I saw the line was moving slow, I just went to another one. I found a lot of faucets that were simply unscrewed from being used so much. A simple turn or two with your fingernail solved the problem for me. I did go without water for a couple of shows that I shouldn't have.
But like ITM said, you could always buy some water. They don't have to offer us anything free. How many other fests offer free filtered water? I've only been to Roo, Hangout, and local fests. I don't remember Hangout having water stations. I just always went to the bathrooms and filled up in the sinks.

Was Hangout an on-site camping festival, or was it more like a series of day-long concerts? I'm no lawyer, and I don't know the legal details, but I can't imagine any competent attorney advising a multi-day on-site camping festival that free water is unnecessary.

I thought that the water was great this year (didn't have any filthy or sulfur smelling water) but the lines were horrendous. I alternated between straight water and water mixed with crystal light in my camelback. Overall, the water situation was better than last year but Roo could certainly add a few more stations inside Centeroo

Getting water from the blue mushrooms was way easier for me in 09. This year the water pressure was always super low, or water just would not be coming out at all. A girl next to me almost passed out during the ~45min wait during John Fogerty.
I wanted to strangle the people who would get up to the faucet, fill up their bottle/camelbak...then reach back in the line for their friends' bottles and begin to fill them.

I bought one of those filter water bottles and was excited to use it until I saw the lines in Centeroo.... I never once got to fill it because every time I was near a water station the lines in the sun were way too long. So I purchased bottled water all weekend..... That wasn't my plan but I wasn't standing in a line in that sun.
I never had a problem filling water, or with bad tasting water and I drank A LOT. I always carried my camelbak and an empty water bottle so I could fill my bladder and also have a bottle to drink quick. I also never had a problem bring water bottles or a full camel-bak into centeroo.

I have no major complaints with the water situation, especially not this year when the unfiltered water tasted exactly like the filtered water. It would be kinda cool if they could construct some wooden platforms around them (or maybe use the rubber flooring stuff that's in some of the misting tents) to help with the mud situation, but that's far from a necessity. We all know we're gonna get a bit muddy at roo! ;D
It's awesome that they're providing free water at all. I think it's a great thing that they do, because it helps cut down on waste from people throwing out bottles, but they don't HAVE to. And there's no problem with drinking the unfiltered water, it's not gonna hurt you at all. I know last year it was AWFUL - I was one of the people who couldn't stomach it - but even then it was there if you needed it which is the important thing.
The filtered water stations are just an added bonus, basically, so I'm kinda sick of people acting like the long lines are a health issue or a big problem. I'm not saying it doesn't suck to wait in line, especially if it's hot and the sun's beating down, but if you're dehydrated and/or overheated to the point where you start to feel like you might pass out, it's time to get out of line and go with the unfiltered stuff or buy a bottle, like dreamingtree said.
There are basically four different options for water on the farm and they each have their trade-offs....you can wait in line for free water that tastes great, you can spend money on immediate water that tastes great, you can spend less money if you plan ahead and bring bottled water in with you, or you can drink the unfiltered water and take a risk that it might not taste as great if you want it both free and immediate. They're all perfectly viable options depending on your exact situation.
