I'm glad someone else was at this show. I was surprised by how well the more electronic songs came across in the live arrangements. Sabali in particular was much better live than on the album.
Yes, this show was tremendous... wish I could have caught the beginning. I showed up during "Batoman" which is one of my favorites. I don't love the album version of "Sabali", but it was excellent live. The highlight for me was "Masiteladi". The guitar-bass interplay on that one was spectacular. They have such a kickin backing band.
I've been trying to talk them up on here since I started posting on this board. Those that went to their show know why.
Seriously. Anybody who is going to the Coldplay shows in the next couple days need to show up early for their opening set. It will not disappoint.
10. Jenny Lewis 09. Roger Alan Wade 08. Beastie Boys 07. Band Of Horses 06. Erykah Badu 05. The Knux 04. Mars Volta 03. Girl talk 02. NIN 01. Cage The Elephant

1.)Phish Phriday (1st time ever and my mind was in the right place/ Highway to Hell and A Day in the Life covers) 2.)Phish Sunday 3.)The Mars Volta (Eighth time I had seen them so I was like whatever, I'll chill and enjoy them. By 35 seconds into the first song I had made my up to the 10th row. Really, really good show. Santa Barbara Bowl performance was pretty epic, but I gotta say this was right up there. Cedric was hilarious and talked way more than usual and Omar was simply epic. Where was Pablo Hinojos? Less At Thr Drive-In members is never a good thing.) 4.)CAGE THE ELEPHANT. Are you kidding me? Such a good-ass show. Played a ton of my favorites. The lead singer was simply the man. One of the better performance by a lead singer in the entire festival in my humble opinion. New songs sounded smurfing AMAZING. Lead singer (Schultz, I believe), reminds me so so much of Iggy Pop and the new songs sounded like their music was going the direction as well. The lead guitar player can smurfing play man. YAH! This was a great show. 4.)Galactic was awesome. Sick camera shot of Shorty teaing into the Trombone at the edge of the stage looking at the crowd. Great, great show. 5.)BRUUUUUUUCE. Man I was hammered. Barely any of my friends usually dance and let me tell you...we danced. 6.)NIN. They should be higher but this was after Bruce and this point I was literally black out drunk. I remember seeing like five songs tho and at some point just thinking my god. this is really really cool. Then passed out. 7.)Beastie Boys. Damn. Did not know they could play like that. This was a really really fun show and was the precursor to Phish and was when I first started "altering my state", so was really cool to watch. 8.)Gov't Mule. Thought this would be my number one before the fest, but wasn't. Amazing covers. Southern Man was actually one of my favorite songs performed at the festival. Creep was sick. 9.)Pretty Lights. Great end to the night. Just chilled right outside the tent and loved the music and lights. Really really cool show and everyone I was with was pleasantly surprised. 10.)Midnite/Passion Pit combo
Snoop was really really good, but was not necessarily a serious music show for me. Just really fun. In terms of having a good time, this was top three.
Animal Collective was pretty cool and I am pretty sure I heard Ben Harper cover Under Pressure while I was drunkenly stumbling home. IF so, it was great.
Okay, I figured we should have some statistics. Through DylanGoesElectric's ranks:
1. Phish 524 2. NIN 305 3. David Byrne 212 4. Beastie Boys 189 5. The Mars Volta 178 6. Wilco 159 7. Bruce Springsteen 148 8. Yeah Yeah Yeahs 137 9. Girl Talk 108 10. Public Enemy 102 11. moe. 89 12. Portugal.The.Man 86 13. Bon Iver 85.5 14. Grizzly Bear 80.5 15. Rodrigo y Gabriela 74.5 16. MGMT 74 17. Dilinger Escape Plan 73.5 18. Jimmy Buffett 71 19. Katzenjammer 69 20. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals 67.5 21. Al Green 67 22. Govt Mule 61.5 23. Band of Horses 61 24. Of Montreal 59.5 25. Phoenix 58.5
I gave 10 points for rank #1, 9 for rank #2, etc. If it was no particular order, I gave them all 5.5. If there was a tie for first, I gave them each 1.5. Phish was weird, some people listed Friday and Sunday separately, some listed them separately but didn't specify which was which, some listed together. I counted them as one entity, but allowed people to rank them twice. Anyway, those would almost without doubt be the top two, with NIN possibly squeezing in between them.

Because of this board, pre Roo I was able to prepare myself for Amadou & Mariam, Vieux Farke Toure, and Rodrigo y Gabriela -and all three blew me away with their live performances.
Amazing: Phish, Bruce, Amadou & Mariam, Vieux Farke Toure, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Wilco, NIN Good to great: Animal Collective, NIN, Jimmy Buffet, King Sunny Ade, Tobacco, MGMT, Passion Pit, Kraak & Smack Glad to have seen: Oakenfold, Grizzly Bear, Beastie Boys, of Montreal, Snoop Dogg
1. Phish Sunday night 2. Phish Friday night 3. Snoop 4. The Decemberists 5. Galactic 6. Rodrigo y Gabriela 7. Portugal The Man 8. Yeah Yeah Yeahs 9. TVOTR 10. Murs
Wilco (Been listening to them for a few years now, but I couldn't decide whether to catch them or The Mars Volta. Glad I decided on Wilco; one of the best shows of the weekend. Def in top 5.)
Beastie Boys (Been waiting about 4 years to see these guys. Intergalatic was superb. Bringing out Nas and debuting a new song was a plus.)
Girl Talk (I was fourth row center. It was easily the craziest and most energetic show of the weekend. Craziest show I have ever witnessed period.)
Jimmy Buffett (I checked the day before Bonnaroo to see if the rumors were true. To my surprise, they were!!! The legend put on a solid performance of hits. Enjoyed a cold one with my best friend during this show.)
Crystal Castles (Very close and high energy. I've seen vids of their insane live performances with Alice practically falling into the crowd. Their show at Bonnaroo was just as energetic. Great show before Girl Talk. Some kid took a hit of acid right next to me before the show.)
TVOTR (Very solid stage presence and great setlist.)
Bruce (About killed me. 3 and a half hours of standing in one place. I'm 22 and Bruce made me feel like an old man. The man is a machine. He didn't take one break. Taking requests from the crowd; especially, Santa Clause Is Coming To Town gave me a chuckle. "It's to f'n hot for Santa!" LOL... Triumph The Insult Comic Dog sang into the mic!!! LOL...
Phish (Last hour and a half on Sunday. Had to get a little tipsy at the camp site beforehand.)
YYY's (Playing Maps acoustically was interesting; I have never heard it that way before. Exceeded expectations.)
Phoenix (Hadn't heard anything by these guys before seeing them. After Beasties, I headed straight over to get a good spot for Crystal Castles and Girl Talk. Phoenix really impressed me. Definetely a sleeper show.)
Passion Pit (I see big things from this band in the future.)
Murs (Started off my Bonnaroo weekend. Definetely one of the sleeper shows. Man has energy; did you see him jump?)

We met some young guys from PA at a gas station on the way home. The first thing one of them said, after registering that we were also roosters, was, "Bruce blows!" He proceeded to announce that the show was dull, they are all old men and couldn't keep up any energy. He claimed that Max had to sit out at the end and let a scab drummer finish the show, to which I explained the truth.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Say you don't like Bruce, say you don't like his music, but no one can seriously argue that band didn't have stamina beyond any other.

haha! that is awesome. Props to you for your musical taste.
Ha, I just looked at your list and I was at all of those shows as well... except I didn't stay for the entire set. Like Al Green, Bruce, and both Phish shows.

1. Yeasayer (Awesome show front row fav!!) 2. Katzenjammer (bundle of energy fun and sexy) 3.Phish 4.mgmt (not much presence but crowd was awsome) 5. Beastie Boys 6. Yeah Yeah Yeahs 7. Animal Collective (defiantly a little disappointed) 8. Bruce 9. Snoop 10. MURS
1. Wilco- My 4th show but first time with this line up. Loved it and the sunset time slot was so perfect.
2. Beasties- I was in the pit near the stage right PA cabinets. My kidneys were turned jelly by that booty bass. I was sore from dancing.
3. Galactic- I had never really heard of these guys but, damn, they were awesome. I just happened to wander over to the Main Stage just before the 'Trombone Battle' of the two guest players.
4. Robyn Hitchcock- Best REM I have heard in years! Haha! Loved being about 20 ft in front of Peter Buck playing the black Rick. Awesome. Robyn's spiels between songs is epic.
5. Al Green- Soul Music Legend in the flesh. People in front of me were f----in' losing it to Rev Al!
6. Jimmy Buffett- Was not expecting too much but showed up just out of curiosity. He was good without a doubt. Fun set.
7. Merle Haggard- My Dad is a huge Hag fan so I know his stuff well. He was in fine form and seemed surprised at how well received he was from the Rooers. Lots of tie dye and gray hair in the crowd.
8. Booker T and Truckers- Nice grooving set with some DBT classics thrown in too. I love 'Time Is Tight'!
9. Snoop- Fun Fun Fun! Danced my --- off. Sunday afternoons in the field at the Main Stage are so great. He did make me cringe at first with his filthy crowd chants. haha
10. The Lovell Sisters- These girls can flat play! They are still just kids and I hope they stay true to their bluegrass roots and not get caught in the Pop-Cuntry Shite Machine.

1. Yeasayer. It was awesome, if there show was an hour longer it would be number 1 even more so. 2. the Mars Volta. loved the show and was much different from when i had previously seen em 3. Portugal. The Man. stellar show that surprised me a lot. loved their music before but wasn't suspecting something that awesome. 4. David Byrne - lots of fun and being as close as anyone could get helped too 5. Crystal Castles - A ton of fun. just a giant party 6. Animal Collective. I enjoyed it a lot, i dunno apparently others don't agree... 7. TV on the Radio. good energy and I guess i was in a good spot for the sound 8. Rodrigo y Gabriella. waited in line in the morning and was well worth it. awesome stuff, they were both rocking it 9. White Rabbits, because of some confusion with portugal's set tim i lost my good spot, but got back in time to lay in the grass and listen to some great stuff 10. MGMT - I couldn't see much but I had a lot of fun, definitely not great and sounded pretty much like the album but the crowd enjoyed it and we all had a good time.
I missed some acts like Cage the Elephant just cause I was too tired to get up but oh well, had tons of fun anyway!
1. The Mars Volta - I tentatively put them above NIN only because I'd never seen Volta before and it was my 3rd time seeing NIN. Plus... I was kind of freaking out and the hot air balloon made it even crazier.
2. NIN - of course. Because mosh pits are awesome and Trent is pretty much god.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey
