I have just started learning to play the guitar and was wondering who are some of the guitarists I should check out this weekend ...
Thanks in advance.
welcome to the club...
definitely check out trey (duh), but hes really tearing it up this tour. jammed out blues, jazz, funk, all around nasty.
warren haynes (gov't mule)- hes been playing with the allman bros for 20 years, and has been with the dead for their last couple tours. really good, really versatile. a tone master. can cover anything and everything (and probably will). he'll pop up at more than just mule's set most likely, but that's not one to miss.
for acoustic, def check out rodrigo y gabriella. mexican acoustic metal. they do covers of metallica and led zeppelin (stairway) that are stunning. theyll be on the main stage. definitely worth a look.
if you like bluegrass, check out david grisman or tony rice. tony rice is a world class flat-picker.
the ben harper set saturday late night might be the sleeper guitar set of the weekend. lots of pedal steel on that album. very blusy and funky. and ive heard some good things about his backing band, especially the guitarist.
the e street band is pretty solid, especially nils lofgren who was also part of neil yong's crazy horse.
the mars volta- omar rodriguez lopez certainly fills the whacked out freak out guitar void. dudes crazy. the bands crazy. definitely very original, very talented guitar playing.
thats it off the top of my head. sure theres plently of others.
Since Costello is playing solo I would assume he will be playing guitar most of the time. Some people are turned off by the country genre but if you arn't check out Merle Haggard he also has a great group of pickers and can pull out a rift or a solo himself.
"It's hard to say whether seeing Kellz backed by Jim James and his lion's mane hairdo or Billy Idol rocking out next to John Oates and his soul patch was weirder to watch. Let's just say both were beautifully bizarre sights to behold."
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
pretty much everyone thats been said. Kaki King, Phish, Gov't Mule, Rod y Gab, Mars Volta, moe. all are known for great guitar work. im sure there are others but those are the ones that i'll be at to have my face reconstructed.
Come to my camp around 10 or 11 any morning. I rock.
And I second Nels Cline...he's got one of the most unique styles around these days....of course Rod y Gabby....and they guys from moe are awesome! Omar is another one with a very unique awesome style too....I kinda like the ones with unique, awesome styles if you couldn't tell ! LMAO
