We are pleased to officially announce that we will be releasing the beloved soundtrack to JURASSIC PARK by John Williams on 2XLP Vinyl on June 11th, 2014, the 21st anniversary of the films theatrical release.
There are two different versions. One, with artwork you might be familiar with by JC Richard that we are referring to as Version A. Version A, is pressed on 180 gram Black Vinyl, with randomly inserted “Dilophosaurus” colored Vinyl. Version B, featuring all new artwork by Dan McCarthy, is limited to 1,000 copies and is pressed on 180 Gram Translucent Amber Vinyl.
New Jack White album includes these crazy features on "THE ULTRA LP":
- 180 gram vinyl - 2 vinyl-only hidden tracks hidden beneath the center labels - 1 hidden track plays at 78 RPM, one plays at 45 RPM, making this a 3-speed record - Side A plays from the outside in - Dual-groove technology: plays an electric or acoustic intro for “Just One Drink” depending on where needle is dropped. The grooves meet for the body of the song. - Matte finish on Side B, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record - Both sides end with locked grooves - Vinyl pressed in seldom-used flat-edged format - Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record - Absolutely zero compression used during recording, mixing and mastering - Different running order from the CD/digital version - LP utilizes some mixes different from those used on CD and digital version

He's always doing wacky things on his records. I don't think my turntable is legit enough to do all that stuff. I have a basic one but would like to set aside some money and upgrade my whole system in the near future.

Aside from the 78 rpm thing a basic turntable should be able to handle all of this. So hop on in to the party!
That being said, I have no idea what flat edge format is.

I don't think my turntable will play under the center labels or however that works. It's limited in how far it will go. I know in the past I wasn't able to use some of his unique records' features.
I'm already getting the album as part of the next Vault subscription....kinda lame that this one isn't included in the vault package since I don't want to buy this twice just to have the special version.

I'm not a member of the vault but I have a buddy who is and I think it is this record on a blue/white split? Might be mistaken.
You are correct, that it is this record. I didn't read up on the info yet but just saw what the ULTRA record had and figured it'd be separate. Just read this on TMR's site:
Vault members needn’t worry – the Vault version and the standard version of Lazaretto both contain all ULTRA LP features. The LP will come with an MP3 download card. Pre-order begins today. Lazaretto will be officially released June 10th.

Picked up
Young Americans - David Bowie Best of - The Guess Who Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
today.. my roommate has Dark Side of the Moon and I've been trying forever to catch it at the used record place we go to... but it always goes quick. I know it's inevitable that we're going to have to split our collection eventually so I was happy when I found it today.
If anyone is interested Popmarket has the 2013 repress of The Last Waltz for $29.99 today, which is a pretty decent price. It is the 3 180 gram disc set that was released LE for RSD last year in everything other than the #. I haven't heard it, but it is a completely new mix and reviews I've read say it is excellent.

Goddammit... Pop Market got me today. I HAD to jump on the Broken Social Scene Forgiveness Rock Record deluxe edition deal. It's $70 which is at least 30% off. Not to mention the only place I really see it for sale these days is Arts and Crafts online store and I don't want to pay import fees.

The numbers are in, and Jack White is once again sitting high and mighty atop his rock ‘n’ roll throne. Not only is Lazaretto the No. 1 album in the U.S. — but the Ultra LP vinyl version just broke the record for biggest week of total sales.
According to White’s website, the Ultra LP sold 40,000 copies since its release, the biggest first-week total since Soundscan began tracking data in 1991.
Available now through Third Man Records, the Ultra LP feature hidden tracks, different mixes, an etched hologram, and an assortment of other goodies. Click here for the full rundown.
Okay, finally picked up my dad's player, amp, speakers, and records to add to my growin' collection. Been usin' it fer about a month so far and no issues. I'll try to get some photos up and a list of my collection soon. I'll also be askin' about upkeep and all too.

I'm already afraid fer my wallet though!
hell yeah. details and pictures of the gear when you get a chance please.
some people get pretty crazy with their vinyl storage and upkeep, really it depends on how OCD you want to get. i do fine with a dry record brush, some nice wood crates to store the records and make browsing easy, MOFI inner sleeves to replace crappy or old sleeves, and plastic outer sleeves when needed to keep the covers clean.
I do have a vacuum record cleaning machine for wet cleaning, but haven't used it in sometime. can do wonders if an old record sounds crappy, but only because of dirt, obviously if its scratches or worn grooves nothing can save it.

This is possibly going to be confusing to the casual vinyl buyer. I forgot about these features and couldn't figure out why my Side B played but not Side A. Ha. I love the new Ultra LP, though, now that I've figured out everything.
I ordered and received Pantera's Far Beyond Driven and Far Beyond Bootleg. Also, Phish's new album, Fuego, just got to my PO Box...can't wait to listen to this one!
New cartridge for the desktop vinyl rig, Ortofon 2M Black:
Just aligned using the Technics Overhang Gauge. I've never done that before, I always used a baerwald arc alignment thing I downloaded from vinyl engine. This way was super easy, probably about 30 minutes all in to get it unboxed, aligned, and tracking force dialed in.
Listening to one of my favorite vinyls, "Aja" right now, and its amazing. I can actually hear the drum stick hitting the ride cymbal, not just the ride cymbal, but the actual stick. Its ridiculous.
Significant upgrade from the KAB/Ortofon ProS30 (prior cart), as it should be. Significantly more punch to the midbass, significantly smoother and livelier midrange. PRaT out the ass, everything feels much more deliberate and correct.
Using an ADL GT40 as a phono, I have no clue what the capacitance is, Ortofon recommends between 150-300pf. I'll probably upgrade to a phono stage with adjustable capacitance in the future, but right now it sounds great.

Some awesome photos and legit looking equipment postjack. Truly jealous and I need to prioritize my life better so I can afford a real system and turntable (and ditch the basic ones I have).
News about the upcoming Third Man Records vault release is out. Live White Stripes album and the next Dead Weather single:

Thanks man, the system is the result of 8 years of obsession. I'm really happy with all of it. I've seen a crapload of gear come in and out of this house, and probably spent too much time researching gear, time better spent enjoying music, but it all worked out in the end.

I think its time I finally signed up for the Vault.

Yea, my problem is that I have just basic equipment that isn't really designed for great home listening. I have an okay turntable but it's one of those "USB to PC" ones that has limited functions and my speaker system is strong but not set up in a way to really enjoy the vinyl. I just have to find a way to stop buying other stuff and set aside money for a decent setup soon.
