While in Nashville for the Primus show I was able to stop by Grimey Records and picked up:
STS9-Peaceblaster for around 7 bucks The Mars Volta- The Bedlam in Goliath (with Mr Muggs 7 inch) for around 30....which was kick ass. I've been looking pick it up but its at least 42+ dollars everywhere online.

I started working at a record store almost 2 years ago and since then, my vinyl collection has been rapidly expanding. I don't even buy CDs anymore. And, to be honest, I don't even care about the sound quality. I like them for the extra packaging. What can I say, I'm a sucker for packaging...My favorite records that I bought in the last month are a colored LP of Transmissions From the Satellite Heart by the Flaming Lips, Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating in Space by Spiritualized, Psychic Chasms by Neon Indian, and of course the new Arcade Fire LP.

That is the beauty of working in a record store, NoD. People come in looking to sell their collections, and sometimes they're quite good. The employee discount that I get is that I get stuff at what it cost us, so, long story short...I got that colored LP copy of Transmissions for $5 ;D I'm a lucky man. I also have a colored copy of Clouds Taste Metallic, same deal with that one.

Oh, also, I know you're a Ryan Adams fan...right now, we have a colored LP copy of that metal LP that Ryan Adams put out, Orion, behind the counter. I'm not gonna buy that one, though, because I heard it kinda sucks. We're going to put it on eBay.

You bastard.
That's why most of the good stuff never gets into my hands haha. Hopefully someday I can track those Flips releases down, they're really underrated albums.
By the way, that RA will sell for a lot on ebay. I would have bought it, but like you, have no interest in it.
Anyway my favorite record store just reopened after a fire and relocation picked up
Beach Boys- All Summer Long (Original Mono) R.E.M. Chronic Town (Blue Vinyl) Prince-1999 Bruce Springsteen- The River The Jam- The Gift Godspeed You Black Emperor-f♯a♯∞
And some stuff off the internet The Radio Dept- Clinging to a Scheme Tame Impala- Innerspeaker Arcade Fire- The Suburbs

^Nice...I've been trying to track down that Tame Impala record both for the store and for myself, but I've only been able to find it as an import. Try not to pay $30 for a record. How much did you pay for it?

^More and more people are starting to think that way, idio. That's definitely the direction physical music is going in. I, myself, haven't bought a cd in probably a year.
For me, it's about the packaging. I realize that sounds silly, but if you already have the songs on your iPod and computer, a big part of the reason why you'd want a physical copy is the artwork and the packaging. Why get a 4.75 x 4.75-inch package when you can get a 12 x 12 inch package that comes with more artwork? That's my thought, anyway.
Again, I know it sounds silly, but for me, it's not about the sound of vinyl (on that topic--it's entirely debatable whether or not vinyl actually even sounds better than CD, at least when it comes to recent releases). It's about the look and the feel.
technically speaking, if you really want sound quality - something like a Blu Ray Audio would be more the way to go. i understand that is a very new technology and very limited in availability.
shame they dont sell them with an oversized vinyl like packaging.
i sort of share your perspective when it comes to packaging - it is fun to hold a big ole record, see the oversized artwork, and smell the glue and plastic that holds the whole mess together.

Jack white is insane.
And idio, while high bit-depth, high sample rate digital audio like blue ray is nice, no amount of resolution will replicate the frequency range/harmonic range of true analogue sound. When a signal goes through that A-D conversion , it's fundamentally changed. Not made worse, just different.

heh. Sorry about the confusion. That is NOT the triple decker. I ordered my singles yesterday and can only hope I get one of those oddities.
That is the 2 color Party of Special Things to Do 7" from the Sub Pop singles club. It's on the Great White Northern Lights slipmat that came with Third Man vault package #3. I just posted it cuz it I thought it looked cool. a bit of a tangent from the triple decker thing.

So did anyone else rush to listen to the under-label groove on their Sea of Cowards LP after watching that jack white video? I had noticed them awhile back but never had the nerve to put the needle to the paper. My mind was blown.

The vinyl version of the new No Age record is easily one of the most beautifully packaged LPs I've ever seen. No BS. Even if you're a casual fan of No Age (like myself), you should go to the record store and get it for the packaging. It's basically a whole book with the LP tucked into a sleeve at the end of the book.

Yeah, solid. They aren't very good live, though...I was all ready to become a huge fan of No Age when I saw them live (I like them, but don't love them), and they were pretty disappointing. Terrible sound. May not have been their fault, though.
