Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
I own the Hospice by The Antlers on vinyl but I'd be surprised if I ever opened it. It's too much to take in all at once. So I get what you're saying, Cokes. I think.
I have it as well, I think I've spun it twice. Don't get me wrong though, it's a flawless album.
Oh the album is incredible and I love it. But, ugh, it's so heavy. The first time I ever listened to it I bawled at my desk and had to go walk around the park for 20 minutes to get it together.
I'm one of those! Proud to have contributed to that statistic
Awesome! What records have you purchased so far?
No purchases yet! My mom convinced me that it was a better idea (which is probably true) to keep the player in NC rather than take it back up to DC just for a month before I am moving everything back down anyway.
I kinda want to start building my collection now though. Any suggestions of where to find cheap ones?

Mom is right on that one. Moving my turntable, stereo and 200ish records was easily the most annoying part of moving recently.
Honestly, Amazon typically has good deals on records. They're packaging is always solid too. Amoeba Music typically has good prices, free shipping and will probably have anything Amazon doesn't.
Really though the best value you're going to get is at your local record store. The places around me are loaded with cheap older records that are typically in very good condition. It's great for when you need to start picking up classic stuff.
You can check out Discogs for harder to find stuff. It's a site strictly for cataloging releases as well as buying and selling music. And you can keep a digital record of all the stuff you own as well as a "Want List." They'll email you whenever someone lists something on your want list, which is frankly kind of dangerous.

Just ordered one to start me on my ~journey~ - Endless Numbered Days, was only $10.99 w Amazon Prime.
Oh! But also I bought two copies of the Christmas Will Break Your Heart limited edition vinyl, so I guess technically that was my first vinyl purchase.

Sound Stage Direct does an outstanding job packaging, too, if you find any good deals on their site. Their site and Elusive Disc are now running close to Amazon as my favorite non-record-store place to get vinyl.

Haha I'm afraid there's not much that will convince me to get rid of either copy. Unless they end up selling for a bunch of money and I decide I need to buy myself a pony or something.

I was in Atlanta yesterday and stopped by Criminal Records, really really awesome place!! I was going to buy Foals - What Went Down, but they didn't have any left, so the worker gave me their poster anyway because he felt bad for me haha. Ended up buying Sung Tongs (Animal Collective).

I have three records on the way! This will be the first additions to my collection since what I got for Christmas.
These two are suppose to be here on Thursday. I had some Amazon gift cards saved up, but they're are starting to disappear (first my speakers, now these).
I bought this off Discogs. I thought I was getting it for $50 less than what Amazon was selling it for, but with international shipping it was only $30 less...lesson learned. It will probably be here in the last week of the month.

Turntablelab.com has this album at a good price (compared to other sites that have not sold out of it) if anyone is looking for it before this year's Bonnaroo.

New Year's Eve, I went to Half Price Books to see if I could find any cheap gets. Found the vinyl press (clear with colors splattered) of "Can You Pass the Acid Test" by Mickey & The Hartbeats (i.e. Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart of the Dead). I actually didn't know this was even a thing, but bought it anyway just cos why the hell not? Ultimately came to find that there were only 500 copies pressed. Very cool.
Moral of the story: Don't sleep on Half Price Books.

Does anybody know why all of Beck's vinyl is so high?
A few albums have yet to be pressed/issued a 2nd time. (Midnite Vultures, The Information)
Most of the 1st pressings of each were small.
If an album has been pressed/issued multiple times, the releases that might cost a few more than the others (of same album) are usually priced that way because of quality/sound of press. Sometimes, you might find a song that wasn't cleared to be pressed/issued a 2nd time, because of lack of clearance. The 1st press might have that song, but because they subverted the authorities on that issue, and rushed it to the plant. I believe that was the case with one of the first few Beck albums. It still happens from time to time. (clearance issues) People use that as a reason for sure when pricing

Sublime is the only release I'm interested in.
also, do you use VC?
Yeah those 420 will be the hot get this RSD. Otherwise, not much yet again. I wish they did all 1st time vinyl releases or 1st time reissues that are rare. These represses they do that are unnecessary and 7 inches of songs that are over pressed is just an attempt to milk the collectors market, like they do with variant covers for comic books.

and honestly at this point in my collecting career i'm more interested in snagging good condition older pressings. they typically sound better then new pressings anyway.
finding old metal or punk albums in great condition is super exciting.

It really says something that even you can't be suckered into wasting money on this shit.
