It will consume you.
I get these email blasts from forcedexposure/experimedia/boomkat every week on what they get in their online stores with a little review of each thing, and I end up wanting to give them my paycheck.
My buying has slowed down considerably, as my music festival attendance has increased. However I have a nice collection now, so its easy to look at my vinyl and feel satisfied. I do have a subscription to the MM 45RPM blue note series: www.musicmattersjazz.com, and allow myself an additional one or two new vinyls a month.
Beyond the superior sound quality, there is something to be said for the ritual of sliding out that vinyl, putting it on the turntable, and dropping the needle, then listening while checking out the cover art and liner notes for the 100th time. It makes me feel more connected to the music.

Daytrotter has White Denim / Maps & Atlases as their next vinyl release:
For the fifth title in the Daytrotter Presents vinyl series, we turned to another tow of our favorite bands -- White Denim from Austin, Texas and Maps & Atlases from Chicago here in our home state of Illinois. They are a million parts bad-ass, and they happen to be playing the Bonnaroo 365 Tour together, starting here in the Midwest and wrapping in the Lone Star State in a few weeks.
The White Denim session is electrifying and features the band as it made its transition into a more adventurous state of rock and roll, full of nuances. Maps & Atlases' side includes three new songs from their most recently recorded unreleased session, plus a stripped-down cover of The Temptations' song, "Ain't Too Proud To Beg," from their second session!
It's yet another instant classic - to go along with the sold-out Civil Wars/Lumineers, Delta Spirit/Doc Watson, Dawes/Justin Townes Earle and Trampled By Turtles/Lucero releases that started the series, but act fast: the 180-gram, split 12" vinyl is ONLY AVAILABLE FOR 28 DAYS!! The record is available for FREE to anyone purchasing a new annual Daytrotter membership for themselves or for a friend (shipping not included). To be clear, if you're already a member, you can get this release by purchasing a gift membership -- you get the vinyl, and your friend gets a year of Daytrotter -- or by using your membership discount and purchasing it in the Daytrotter store. But reserve your copy by November 7th, because we will only press as many as are pre-ordered; these will be extremely limited edition, collectible items. Thanks for the support, and get yourself some beautiful records! -Mr. Daytrotter
You keep up with the new releases so well, noD. Jealous.
Well, it's hard work but I do what I can.
Just ordered Andy Stott- Luxury Problems
I ordered this last night from boomkat. About how long do their shipments take? I'm guessing I'd have to add another few days for it to make it across the country, as well.

Their shipments take a while because of their location.
For example I have a Four Tet single on it's way from there, and I got an email shipment notification October 26th.

I ordered Luxury Problems on vinyl from Amazon. It was supposed to arrive on Nov. 6 initially then I got a notification that it would be Dec. 19 a few days ago. I don't know if Sandy is causing any shipping troubles. The new Kendrick Lamar is out of stock and backordered everywhere.

I had an amazing day at an antique store in the northeast butthole of Tennessee today:
Hendrix - Are You Experienced original '67 pressing, tri-color label, apparently this can go for $100+ and I got it for $4.99 Stones - Sticky Fingers original '71 pressing with the zipper Neil Young - Harvest, After the Gold Rush Lou Reed - Berlin Blind Faith - s/t
Plus a bunch of old country and this unbelievable gem:
Quartz driven/direct drive is my favorite. Try to stay away from belt drives. Denon makes a really good turntable u can get a very good used one for 500 ish. I have a technics 1800 that works totally good and u can prob get one of those used for like 300.
I personally like a heavier, wooden look table. Classic look and HEAVY. Feels more solid, produces great sound and doesn't skip much. Def stay away from the entry level belt drive units in the 100$ range new. You just won't be happy with it down the road.
Check ebay, there are some deals on there all the time.
If its a used machine make sure you factor in another 50 or so for a needle cartridge or stylus.
If you can afford the Denon, you will be really happy you did.
Also, try and stay away from straight arms. They wear the disc out faster

?
This is totally a matter of opinion.
Edit: Before some smartenheimer comes in here, I know he said my "favorite," which implies opinion. I'm just saying, it seems like you're giving definitive advice on something when both belt drives and direct drives have pros and cons.

Why have I not decided to read this thread until now? I personally collect a lot of original press vinyl from the 60's and 70's. Lot's of first press or even promotional vinyl for The Dead, Allman's, Skynard, Jimi, Pink Floyd. I like to collect these ones because it feels like I have an artifact from the past and think about the previous owner and what they experienced listening to these albums for the first time. Mostly drugs, but what did they think of the drugs they were doing when they played these records for the first time.
You can compare my vinyl collection of that stuff to what some one from today's iPod would be like.

Yes, it is a matter of opinion. Absolutely.
What kind do you have?
I have a belt drive.
I've had both and I can say the belt drive sounds much better.
I have belt and like it a lot better then dd. If both speakers worked for the console I'd use it exclusively.
Which reminds me, are there any good sites for replacement console parts? I'm worried if I go get just any speakers the amp inside either wont be enough or won't work somehow
